Off-Topic: Adventures in Apartment Hunting Part 3

After almost a year of discussion, months of going through hundreds of apartment listings and weeks of taking appointments, Steff and I felt like we might have found the one. Despite how in love we were with that place, and how actively we were communicating with our point of contact to get more information about the place, we wanted to check out at least one more place as a gut check.

However, someone else was in the running for our potential dream condo, and we were being pressed to make a decision fast. Would this one last appointment make the difference? Would it screw us out of the one we had our hearts set on by taking too long to respond? Click through to find out!

Condo #3: Uptown

This condo was the only we considered that was north of the downtown area. It was still within walking distance of the subway, which made it viable for us. Also making it viable were the fact that we’ve seen a number of condo postings go up for condos in this area and we really wanted to check one of these out. Our first attempts at securing an appointment fell through, but we finally got one set.

Steff and I were feeling the pressure from our contact at the condo we fell in love with, because there was someone else in the running for it. Through a lot of back-and-forth with our contact, we hoped that we could stall for just enough time so that we could see this one last place. We felt it was important to validate our love for the first with at least one other similar condo.

Then, the night before our appointment, and just after I had dropped off Steff, I receive a call. Our final appointment got cancelled because someone had scooped it up. I called Steff up immediately to let her know. I was in a panic, fearing that if we don’t make a decision that second, we could lose the condo we loved, but Steff insisted we take the night to mull it over.

With that, she went home and I went home. Still in a panic, I went back to padmapper.com to look for another place, just in case. The only place I could find that I would have been happy with as an alternative was simply another available condo with the exact same layout in the same building. I kept that on file just in case.

The Decision

The following morning, Steff and I met at her place for lunch. It didn’t take long for us to come to a conclusion. I called up our contact at the condo we loved and told her we’d take it.

We both had huge grins on our faces, knowing that we secured a place that we were both really happy with. From there, we met up with the landlord to sort out some things. By the time you read this, the paperwork should be all done and we’ll be ready to move in at the start of March. 🙂

Thanks for reading through this series of posts. There will be more posts related to this move in the future. Though not really video game related, it’s my blog and it’s a pretty big deal in my life right now. I hope you find these interesting. If not, more straight-up video game posts are always on the way!
