My Coworkers Get Their First Look at the Nintendo 3DS

Just like a child on show-and-tell day, I packed up my Nintendo 3DS and showed it off to my coworkers as soon as I could. As someone who works in the tech sector, I’m surrounded by like-minded individuals that love checking out the latest in technology. While I wasn’t trying to sell people on the device in particular, I definitely wanted to see their first impressions of glasses-free 3D.

What did they think?

To demonstrate, I showed off Super Street Fighter IV: 3D Edition and the 3DS system’s ability to take 3D pictures. Their reactions were surprisingly strong; mostly in the positive direction. It was actually really neat to see their actual first reactions to it, as they acted as if they’d seen something magical.

Some of my coworkers did double takes after laying eyes on the screen for the first time. Some yelled in shock. A few of my coworkers even laughed as a knee-jerk reaction, because they didn’t know how else to react to the sight of glasses-free 3D. What they all had in common was that they were all amazed by it.

One of my coworkers, while impressed, was concerned that the technology would screw up your eyes somehow. I think it’s too early to tell, but who knows? If it does, I’m sure we’ll find out soon enough. Hopefully I won’t find out the hard way.

Unless the world discovers that this type of 3D is bad for you, I think Nintendo has a hit here. If they can get that unit in enough people’s hand to have them experience it for themselves, this thing could not only sell like crazy, but usher in the era of mass-market glasses-free 3D.

Have you had a chance to try out a 3DS? What do you think of the 3D effect?
