October 9, 2012 Pick-Up Post

This could have easily been a Borderlands 2 month. Having beaten the game, I could have simply hunkered down and played Legendary Vault Hunter to completion. However, a bunch of titles I’ve been eying went on sale, and a chance playthrough of a demo led me to go out and buy the latest entry in a series I haven’t played since 2000.

NBA 2K13

The last 2K basketball game I played was NBA 2K1 on the Gamecube. Of late though, I’ve heard that this is arguably the best sports franchise out there. As a huge basketball fan, I was stunned at how much the game now looks and plays like the real deal. After one pass through the demo, I knew I needed this game in my life.

Lollipop Chainsaw

The latest Suda 51 joint is the first one I’ve ever bought. While I’ve always found the premises of his games interesting, I’ve generally heard that their executions were sloppy at times. Though I’ve heard mixed opinions about this one, it’s the first one that I’m curious enough to give a shot. The fact that I got it on sale for $20 doesn’t hurt.

Journey Collector’s Edition

I must confess: I don’t really know what the heck Journey is. All I know is that it’s really short, involves you walking in sand, and is supposedly really good. Once I saw that it was coming out on disc, I figured I’d wait for that version of it. The Journey Collector’s Edition also includes Flow, Flower, and some unreleased game prototypes. As with Lollipop Chainsaw, I also got this on sale for $20.

Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown

Though I generally hate 3D fighting games, playing the demo for Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown did pique my interest a bit; especially at $15. Recently, Microsoft put it on sale for %50 off and I couldn’t say no. I’m hoping that this does not collect digital dust on my hard drive like King of Fighters XIII has, but we’ll see now that I’ve got a bunch of other new stuff to catch up on.
