Our last adventure was a heartbreaker. Though we felt down, we were far from out. Apartment #4 was the first of 3 we would see that night. Forgoing the triplex format this time around, we found a loft-style condo that looked like one you’d get from living in the heart of the city. Was the metropolitan experience enough to win us over?

Apartment #4: Sketchy Time Donuts
This place was located just outside of the downtown core in an area that neither Steff or I were overly familiar with. As we drove in, I became quickly uncomfortable within the community due to the madcap cast of characters that populated the streets. Most symbolic of this was a Coffee Time Donuts where every customer and loiterer made me extremely uncomfortable just by being in their presence. It also doesn’t help when there’s a poster in the shop asking its customers to pass along any info on the man who recently robbed the place.
Inside the apartment, the atmosphere made me feel like I was in a television show. While the place wasn’t necessarily in mint condition, and the sight of dirty dishes in a condo that was flagged as abandoned weirded me out, this style of condo is exactly what we had envisioned when we think of living the city life. The place had a cement ceiling, cement pillars, and a sliding wall that acted as a door to the bedroom. There was something very cool about that condo that we really liked. However, once again, the area just wasn’t right for us. To be fair, I was the one who was very uncomfortable there, while Steff was the tough cookie. While the notion of living in a place like that seemed really cool to both of us, we didn’t miss it too much after we left. It just wasn’t the right fit, and we were hoping that one of our next two spots would finally fill our void.
