When I saw the news that Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright was announced by Level 5, I actually stepped away from my desk at work to text my brother the surprise news. Considering the fact that he’s a fan of Phoenix Wright and a huge fan of Professor Layton, this is a match made in heaven for him. I don’t have any numbers to prove it, but I think this is a dream game for a lot of people.
We don’t really know much of anything right now about the game right now. All we know is that it’s coming for the Nintendo 3DS. I’m guessing that it will be a mash-up of Phoenix Wright’s adventure gameplay with Professor Layton’s puzzle-solving, but it could be anything. As someone who hasn’t played a Professor Layton game before, this may be enough motivation for me to get caught up. My brother has all of the games so it’s just a matter of me borrowing them and giving the series a shot. This is also motivation for me to finish the third Phoenix Wright game once and for all.
Ironically, Level 5 timed this right around Halloween, when I already have my Phoenix Wright costume ready and my brother is one top hat away from having his Professor Layton costume complete. Maybe we’re just psychic? Probably not, but I’d like to think so.
