We Stand on Guard #1

Just wanted to chime in real quick to recommend issue #1 of We Stand on Guard by Brian K. Vaughan. Set 100 years in the future, a group of Canadian freedom fighters try to defend their home turf against the invading United States. As one of my favourite writers, he continues to dazzle here with great characters and a great concept for a story that explores the relationship between these neighbouring countries. It also doesn’t hurt that it pulls my patriotic heart strings in a medium that rarely explores north of the border. Can’t wait to see what else is in store for this new series!

The Runaways

At some point in your life, you’ve probably felt like your parents were evil. This time, the common thread weaving all of the issues together in Vol. 3 is the concept of rebuilding. Oh, and there’s also still the fact that everyone is trying to hunt down Marko and Alana for betraying their respective armies in hopes of maintaining their forbidden love.

Saga Vol. 2 Review

Meeting your significant other’s parents is a big – and oftentimes awkward – step in anyone’s relationship. This adage holds true for Marko and Alana, as she meets her husband’s parents for the first time. With that said, the stress of this initial encounter is amplified by a number of different factors, such as tense race relations, a missing spirit doubling as a babysitter, and a host of assassins out for their blood, including Marko’s ex-fiancee.

Saga Vol. 1 Review

Saga is the latest brainchild from Lost and Y the Last Man writer Brian K. Vaughan. Set well into the future, it chronicles the trials and tribulations of soldiers from rival factions that have fallen in love with each other. What Vol. 1 may lack in originality, it makes up for by executing on its vision really well to tell an entertaining and mature sci-fi soap opera.
