Ever since she got a Wii for Christmas last year, I’ve noticed that my girlfriend looks at Ubisoft in a very positive light. She as built up quite a collection of Wii games for herself, many of them published by Ubisoft. Thanks to her positive experiences with Ubisoft games, she’s become a Ubisoft fan in the same way that I’m a fan of Capcom. When she sees that Ubisoft logo on the game box, she expects that game to be good. When we visited the Ubisoft booth at Fan Expo, she was hyped to receive a promo code on Ubisoft games and tried to cash it in the moment we got back to the hotel. To her disappointment, it didn’t work on pre-orders and she’d already bought every other Ubisoft game she wanted.
How did Ubisoft win her over to the point where she equates their brand with good games?

I don’t remember exactly when Ubisoft made the shift, but there was a specific point where they began making games for gamers other than the hardcore set. This shift included making games for girls and casual gamers. Say what you may about games like the Imagine series, but they’re giving young girls something to play. Nowadays, girls have a lot more of girl-centric games to choose from, at least compared to when I was growing up. Ubisoft has played a big role in giving girls something to play, which I think is worth applauding.
My girlfriend has long since passed the age where the Imagine series would be her cup of tea, but Ubisoft still has her gaming tastes covered. She loves the Raving Rabbids series and is looking forward to picking up the new one set to hit stores later this year. She owns the first three mini-game collections as well as Rabbids Go Home, which was heavily inspired by Katamari Damacy.

One of the first games she got for her Wii was Grey’s Anatomy. It’s one of her favourite shows and this game was near the top of her must-play list. She had some problems with the presentation, but she told me that she really liked it and beat it within a few days.

The game that really won my girlfriend over had to be Just Dance. I remember sending her a video of the Giant Bomb guys playing the game thinking she would just enjoy watching them look silly. Instead, it completely sold her on the game. Despite my concerns with it, she loves this game to bits. We’ve played this game together a number of times and her twinkle toes demolish my two left feet every time. Because of her positive experience with Just Dance, she also picked up Dance on Broadway and constantly reminds me about how excited she is to buy Just Dance 2, which is out in a couple of days. We got to play Just Dance 2 at Fan Expo a few months ago, and it appears that my girlfriend will love the sequel, too.
I find it cool that she’s developed this relationship with Ubisoft. Not every company has to make games like Army of Two, which my girlfriend and I’m sure many other female gamers are thankful for. I’m sure that Girlfriend Gaming features about Just Dance 2 and the new Rabbids game will hit In Third Person in the near future. Does your significant other have any gaming brand preferences?
