When my girlfriend bought her PlayStation 3, she got it in a bundle that included inFamous and NHL 11. She may give inFamous a shot someday, but there’s no way you’d ever get her to play NHL 11. Hockey simulations just aren’t her thing. Instead of selling it, I offered to take it off of her hands, which I did eventually in a trade. I got NHL 11, and I bought her a copy of the Saw video game in exchange, which she’s wanted to play for a long time now.
I know that the EA Sports NHL series has been on fire for the last few years, earning critical acclaim from the gaming press and hockey gamers. However, I haven’t seriously played a hockey video game since Wayne Gretzky’s 3D Hockey in 1996. I imagine that hockey video games have changed a lot since then, but I’m hoping that the barrier to entry isn’t too high for me to overcome. I don’t ever see myself diving too deep into NHL 11, but I’m hoping that I can at least have some fun with it like I did during the good old days of NHL ’94.
Am I set for a good time or am I in way over my head?
You’re in luck. You have the option of playing with NHL 94 controls, which is very simple.
If I were you though, I’d persevere a little and use the classic controls which give the game a little more interest as this game goes much deeper than old games. You can get into scrums along the boards or dive in front of shots, both of which are very useful skills.
