The PlayStation Store has been back for a few days now, and the “Welcome Back” program is in full effect. While it’s a nice gesture to be given free stuff, the process in which you get your free games is clunky and more confusing than it needs to be. You also run into a series of random error messages as you work through the process. Worst of all, during the process, it can error out in a way where it appears like you can no longer access one of or both of your free games. This just happened to me, and I was very upset for a few minutes.
Don’t fret if this happens to you. I found the fix on the PlayStation Community forums and have included this in the post. Follow the steps and you should be fine. No one should have to go through this kind of junk to get these “Welcome Back” freebies, but it’s better than nothing I guess.
From the PlayStation Community Forums:
Q: I no longer have the option to choose my free Welcome Back games. What can I do?
A: If you navigate away from the Welcome Back section of the store without choosing your free games or exit the store completely or have been kicked off due to high traffic you may need to follow the below in order to choose and download your free games.
1. On your PlayStation 3 or PlayStation Portable navigate to the PlayStation Network icon on the XMB
2. Log into your PlayStation Network account and choose Account Management > Transaction Management > Services List
3. Choose “SCEA Promotions” from the list of services displayed
4. Select either “PS3 Free Games” or “PSP Free Games” and then choose “Select Content”
You will be taken to the store to choose your remaining free games or be allowed to download an activated game that may have not shown up due to the hightraffic demand.
Good Luck.
Thanks for that, I have 2 accounts and on my US account I didn’t want to download the games because of the limited space on my system, just add them to my download list for later but I ran into some issues because after I chose them when I left it to check on my list it wasn’t there after the icon disappeared after I chose the game but it’s all good now.
P.S Sorry I haven’t commented on the past few posts Jett, I have read them if it matters to you.
P.P.S The Fail Station Network picture was a little bit harsh, and if you are wondering the PS + subscription means you are entitled to a list of free games and content like avatars not to mention the discounts.
No worries about the comments. You’re not obligated to write anything. I appreciate them all.
I am familiar with the other PSN perks included in the deal. As for being harsh, this is just one more kick in the nuts in a bad situation where online play was down for almost a month, the store was down for over a month, over 77 million people’s PSN personal information got compromised (including ours) and Sony withheld the news of the hack to try and make the news appear less bad than it actually was. At the very least, they shouldn’t have put out the “Welcome Back” page until it actually works properly without having users run into rampant error messaging and without a process that could cause users to think they’ve lost access to their games unless they do the extra work of looking at the Sony support forums themselves.
Fair enough. Seeing as how we are both on the subject of PSN please feel free to add my account: VoteKratos
