It is unfortunately, a fairly well-known fact that the online video game community is not the most pleasant place in the world. Especially in the competitive gaming space, where there are no shortage of people spewing hateful epithets from their mouths, or sending over colourfully-worded text messages to others about others’ in-game behaviour.
During the last few weeks of playing Marvel vs. Capcom 3, I’ve received an abnormally large amount of hate messages; way more than I ever did playing Street Fighter. I don’t play Marvel to infuriate others, but for whatever reason, the player base seems to either really hate me, or are just a talkative bunch.
I thought I’d share some of the messages I’ve received with you just for kicks (and to expose some of these jerks who really should behave themselves). As much as I’d like to expose their gamertags, I have censored those (and any coarse language) out of respect to the message senders and to my readers. Anyway, here’s a taste of some of the worst messages I’ve received through XBOX Live of late.

In Third Person 
I spend most of my time in PSN anyway so I don’t really encounter odd behaviour for some reason but I do feel like doing so when I do poorly at a game in multiplayer, I constantly feel like giving my rivals a piece of my mind but on a PS3 it is quite a hassle to send a message so I don’t bother with messages unless I am setting up a clan/party or inviting someone to a game or just adding them to my friends list. However I did once receive an odd message from someone in Sweden, I didn’t understand what it said because I don’t speak Swedish but I bet that jerk said some nasty things about my mother that day…
I’m a PS3 player and generally don’t receive many hateful messages. There have been a couple over the last few years, but it is usually just the ramblings of a nutter. I do use a headset though and encounter crap talk quite a lot within games. COD Black Ops is by far the worst gaming community I have been a part of. I’m a 15th Prestige player (highest rank) and get called all sorts of names due to that. I’m also 30 years old and have given that information out from time to time. Apparently being 30 and playing games makes me a fat, unemployed loser with no girlfriend…. The mute function is a gift from God.
