After our first two appointments, particularly the second one, Steff and I were feeling pretty low about our search. While there are always hundreds of apartment listings available in the area we were looking for, the two we thought were great didn’t live up to our expectations and we were concerned that things wouldn’t get better.
For our next two appointments, we decided to check out some condos. Would we have better luck with the condos than we did with the houses?

Condo #1: Hot Location
The first condo we checked out was in the heart of a trendy part of Toronto. We got there a bit early, which gave Steff and I a good 45 minutes to just walk around the area. While some of the surrounding area was still under construction, we loved the fact that the building was directly beside a street car route, was within walking distance to a number of restaurants, grocery stores, and was even walking distance of a major Toronto stadium. We were hoping that the inside of the condo would be just as exciting.
Having seen two old houses prior to this, it was refreshing to see a brand new apartment that featured modern style cues. We both loved how the place looked. Unfortunately, there was a serious downfall to the place. We could not get over how small it was. This place was even smaller than the crack house in my previous post. The one bedroom was barely big enough to hold a queen size bed, while the “living space” that was supposed to act as a kitchen/dining room/living room was no more than 56 sq ft max. In that one living space, you could either put in a round 4-person table or one love seat and that’s it.
Despite how much nicer this place seemed to the others we’d seen so far, we weren’t going to sacrifice living space to be in a cool area.

Condo #2: The One?
After 3 appointments, we felt like we had a good grasp of what we wanted out of a place. Looking at the ad for condo #2, this pretty much had everything we wanted, at least on paper. We’ve been burned before, but it was worth checking out nonetheless.
I’m glad we did. We’ve built up a giant checklist of things in our heads that our future home would need, and this hit pretty much all of them. Most importantly, walking out of that place, we were both in love with the place. We’d already begun talking about the specifics on how to lay out furniture and other specific nuances, which we hadn’t done with any other place we’d seen.
We were super excited about the place, but we still had one more appointment to go. As a gut check, we wanted to see at least one more place before making a decision. Would this next place truly be the one? Or would the final place be the place we call home? Come back soon for the final post in the series!
“This place was even smaller than the crack house”!! Laughed my ass off as i read this!!
