Just over 3 months ago, I got Rocksmith as a Christmas present from Steff. My initial impressions of it were generally positive, though something like this really takes time to pass judgment. Have I made any progress since?
Admittedly, I have not played the game too much of late. Other games in my rotation and our big move have really gotten in the way of rocking out. However, I still pick up the guitar almost daily and I find that much of what I’ve learned has stuck. I’ve even managed to learn a few things on my own as I noodle with the guitar. I know guitar snobs will scoff, but I did figure out how to play “Boulevard of Broken Dreams” and “Buddy Holly” on my own, which is progress nonetheless.
I’m far from the next Eddie Van Halen, but so far it’s helped me overcome the first (and hardest) barriers of learning how to play the guitar. I can now pick it up and make music on my own terms, which is a very empowering feeling. At the very least, it’s served as an awesome trojan horse. I’m excited to see where my adventure with the guitar goes from here!
