Ultra Street Fighter IV battle: Rufus (kcidd91) vs Rolento (jettFTW)

Rufus is almost always a tough match for anyone. Since there are so few people online using him, hardly anyone has any real experience fighting the character. On top of that, his style is so awkward that the people that play him usually do so as their main and are pretty good with him. Adding to the pressure for me is that Rolento sucks in close quarters, which is exactly where Rufus shines. I try my best to fend off the onslaught from kcidd91!

Jett Plays Ultra Street Fighter IV Omega Mode

I try my best to show off some of the new changes within the context of a real fight with mixed results. At a certain point, my opponent gets too good, so I switch to playing serious. Also, I got someone to rage quit!

Ultra Street Fighter IV Showdown: Decapre vs. Rolento

Decapre and Rolento have more in common than just being two of the five new characters in Ultra Street Fighter IV. They’re also characters that I’ve put a lot of time and effort into. As of writing, my Decapre is ranked 4th in the world on PSN, while my Rolento is 7th. Clearly, I’ve managed to garner a fair amount of success with both, to the point where they probably give my Rose a run for her money.

In this post, I’ll analyze both characters based on my experiences with them and determine which of the two is better. Which of the two will come out of this fight still standing?

Ultra Street Fighter IV battle: Rolento (emufarmdotcom) vs Decapre (jettFTW)

Thought this one was a particularly strong showing from my Decapre. To be fair, I believe his main character is C. Viper, which he pulled out after this match. However, wanted to share this one specifically because I was proud of my performance on this one.

Ultra Street Fighter IV battle: Dudley (CasterMurdoc) vs Rolento (jettFTW)

Rolento might be a flavour of the month thanks in part to Nemo’s phenomenal play in the tournament scene, but the character clearly has its flaws. In particular, he can get dominated in close by offensive-oriented characters, such as Dudley. Still, I try my best to hang in tough against this highly-ranked opponent.

Ultra Street Fighter IV battle: Rolento (Saint-Seiya_III) vs Rolento (jettFTW)

I don’t like playing the Rolento mirror match. It basically boils down to two circus acrobats trying to trick each other with the same tricks. Posted this one because Saint-Seiya_III clearly thought he had me beat after the first round. Karma at its finest.

Ultra Street Fighter IV battle: Rose (EG Justin Wong) vs Rose/Rolento (jettFTW)

Oh my goodness! It’s not every day you get an opportunity to fight the legendary Justin Wong. Having idolized him ever since I discovered the competitive fighting game scene, this was basically the equivalent of me playing Michael Jordan in one-on-one basketball. I’ve got my direct footage from my console above, though you can also watch our fights from Justin’s perspective. He talked some smack after that first match, but maybe he spoke too soon. 😉

jett vs jwongGG Justin! Thanks for the matches! I hope we can run it back to settle the score once and for all!

Return of the Raging Demon

Years ago, I publicly dumped Akuma. Despite having invested hundreds of hours into the character, I felt like our relationship had run its course. I hit a ceiling with that character that was lower than where I wanted to go, so I thought it would be best to move on. As I’ve said multiple times on this blog in the following years, dropping Akuma for Rose was the best thing I ever did in a fighting game. Since dropping Akuma, I’ve leveled up to the point where my Rose is currently ranked 3rd in the world on PSN, which is a milestone that I wouldn’t have foreseen in my wildest dreams.

Was the dramatic turnaround all due to the character change? Part of it certainly is. However, having gone back to watch some old video and having played with Akuma recently, it’s becoming more apparent that much of my success now comes from personal growth.
