I have seen a number of rumors surrounding an HD compilation of the first three Mortal Kombat games. I first saw details on IPLAYWINNER, and those initial rumors are beginning to appear more valid as retailers have leaked and removed product pages for Mortal Kombat: HD Kollection.
As a fan of the first three Mortal Kombat games, I approve of this move. Though this product hasn’t officially been announced, it’s rumored to come out in November for PlayStation 3 and feature re-captured sprite animations with new actors. As much as I would want these versions to be true to the original, I understand that there isn’t really a way to up-res or re-draw the original sprites without the game being truly HD. As long as the gameplay stays true to the originals, count me in.
This would seem like a great lead-up to the new Mortal Kombat game, which is due out early next year. Look out for discussion on this and probably the old Mortal Kombat games at some point on In Third Person!
