The original Red Steel was supposed to showcase the awesomeness of the Wii remote. It was supposed to show the world that you could use the Wii remote as a sword and a gun like you would in real life. On paper, this game sounded amazing. Instead, we got a mediocre game that highlighted the controller’s weaknesses more than anything.
Based on hype alone though, Red Steel sold really well. Hoping to right the wrongs of the predecessor, Ubisoft released Red Steel 2, which was one of the first games that required players to have a Wii Motion Plus. While critics agreed that Red Steel 2 was a much better game than the original, consumers didn’t care. No one bought Red Steel 2.
This is where I come in to ‘save the day’. Red Steel 2 was oddly, the only game I bought during Boxing Week. I passed up on a number of big name games because the price and/or timing weren’t right for me. However, in the case of Red Steel 2, this was a game I wanted to play and I was able to buy at the bargain bin price of $10. This was also the version that came packed in with the Wii Motion Plus, which you still can’t buy separately for that price.

Considering the huge stash of games I have to work my way through, I don’t think I’ll get around to Red Steel 2 anytime soon. At some point in the future though, I will definitely crack it open and fight my way through the samurai wild west. Don’t hold your breath for it, but expect Red Steel 2 impressions in the future from In Third Person!
