*Not fully irrelevant, but almost
Yesterday, Capcom released a patch for Marvel vs. Capcom 3, which they said would activate Event Mode within the game. What they didn’t tell us was that the patch included a number of balance changes and bug fixes as well.
While most of the changes will be glossed over, the news of Sentinel being nerfed has made quite the splash within the Marvel vs. Capcom 3 community.
Next time you hit Sentinel, you’ll notice that it took off more health than it used to. That’s because his vitality was reduced from 1,300,000 (highest in the game) to 905,000 (below average).

As a Sentinel player, it’s easy for me to cry salty tears. However, objectively speaking, I think it was a bit too much. Sure, his firepower is still insane, especially with X-Factor, but many players were already beginning to exploit the weaknesses of Sentinel as he was. Now, with 30% less health, his even more risky to use. He can easily go down in two solid combos if you find an opening, and he’s essentially a sitting duck as an assist if your opponent is just waiting to punish it. I think that a combination of this nerf and players coming up with more anti-Sentinel strategies will signal the end of the Sentinel gravy train.
While I don’t think I’ll be abandoning ship just yet, this does hurt my Wolverine/Morrigan/Sentinel team. I’m constantly in the lab experimenting with new pieces, so maybe this will inspire me to find something new.
What are your thoughts on the Sentinel nerf?
