Ninjas have hijacked Capcom’s secrets yet again. Though it should come as no surprise to anyone who knows anything about Street Fighter, an announcement trailer for Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition coming to consoles hit the internet earlier today.
While the original YouTube video has since been pulled, there are other places where you can find the actual video. Or you can click through to see what the trailer revealed!
If you already own a copy of Super Street Fighter IV, you won’t have to buy another disc. Arcade Edition will be available as DLC, which includes the four new characters (Yun, Yang, Evil Ryu and Oni). The replay channel will be getting a bevy of new features, such as the ability to send replay data to other players, the ability to follow players with over 3,000 PP, and even the ability to get notifications when one of your followed players has a new replay up. If you’re tired of scouring up and down the list to find Daigo videos (like me), this is a great addition.
The most interesting feature on the way is the ability for people without the DLC to play those with it. In the video, it sort of makes it sound like you can choose between Super and AE versions of characters, but I’ve also read that the balance changes will be free and distributed to everyone.
Will I be buying this? Yes. Twice. One for each of my consoles. This looks like a great update to one of my all-time favourite games. I haven’t played much Super Street Fighter IV of late because I’ve been knee-deep into Marvel vs. Capcom 3, but this might be the update to bring me back!
This is going to be interesting but I hope they refine it and give a fresh coat of paint Yun, Yang, Evil Ryu and Oni because there is nothing I hate more than lazy uninspired DLC. Capcom will probably deliver with this but I hope that they flesh out their animations and moves as much as possible.
P.S Jett could you talk about Mortal Kombat, the new one comming out this month? Don’t forget about Kratos as a playable character!
P.P.S Please review this when it comes out so I can make up my mind on this purchase.
From what I have seen/heard, this is going to be a pretty big update for Street Fighter IV. I look forward to all the new additions. All of the extra Replay Channel stuff is awesome and kind of unexpected.
Have you tried the Mortal Kombat demo? I was super hyped to buy it on day one, but I don’t know anymore after playing the demo. Not to say that it’s bad, but I’m really out of step with what has become the Mortal Kombat fighting engine. It was easy as a kid to transition between “Street Fighter Style” and “Mortal Kombat Style”, but right now I have a hard time wrapping my head around the fighting engine of Mortal Kombat. I’ll give it more time and see if I’m willing to learn it.
Well, now that you mention it, the Marvel vs Capcom 3 engine does kind of put it to shame, also the Streetfighter IV engine, the setting style and artistic aspect is very different. I just hope that what MK doesn’t make up in eye candy, they make up with a robust solid multi player, great campaign and good fighting mechanics. I guess when you try to please the audience of MK you can’t really risk messing with what made the series popular. I just hope their are some good surprises in there for us fans of the series.
I wouldn’t necessarily say that the Marvel vs. Capcom 3 engine puts Street Fighter IV to shame. They’re fighting games, but they’re trying to achieve different things. As much as I love Marvel vs. Capcom 3 right now, if you put a gun to my head and asked me to pick the better fighting game engine, I’d choose Street Fighter IV, mostly because I prefer that engine over the Marvel engine.
Mortal Kombat is also trying to achieve something different from those other two. As far as “stuff to do” in Mortal Kombat, I’ve heard there is a ton of things to do, whether you’re buying it for single player or multiplayer.
Sorry I miss spoke, I said the Mortal Kombat engine is put to shame by Marvel vs Capcom and Street Fighter IV, but I do agree with you, they are not so much as polar opposites but are distinct in their respected concepts.
