Let’s Talk About Duke Nukem Forever

I remember first reading about Duke Nukem Forever in EGM magazine back in 1997. That feels like it was a lifetime ago for me. While this game was going through development hell, I hit puberty, graduated college on two separate occasions and have worked six different jobs before settling into a stable position in the digital advertising industry. It’s crazy to me to think that 14 years later, this game has officially gone gold and is supposedly coming out in a matter of days.

I’m about as excited for Duke Nukem Forever now as I was 14 years ago, which is to say I’m not excited at all. However, I do have a morbid curiosity about the game, considering its storied history and the fact that it’s based on game design that pre-dates Halo 1. After all of this time, it can’t be good…right? Maybe Gearbox, the makers of Borderlands (which I love) and the team finishing up Duke Nukem Forever, will surprise me on this. At this point though, I’m not holding my breath.

Are you excited for Duke Nukem: Forever? Are you picking it up? Do you think that it’ll be any good after all of the turmoil it’s gone through? Speak your mind in the comments!

I certainly hope that this game is something to recognise in the gaming community. If you were working on a game for 14 years and then see it torn apart by critics and the gaming community in general then I would ask the developers ‘How do you keep the gun out of your mouth?’ I hope that this game really hits it off because this industry does NOT need another sad story, do you remember Project Offset Jett? I don’t want this to ever happen to a franchise as well recognised as Nukem so here’s to wishful thinking…

To be ‘fair’, none of the original developers are on this game. It’s changed hands many times and is now with Gearbox. It would still suck to see this game flop, but flops happen.

I’m not familiar with Project Offset. I’ll look into that sometime.
