In just a few days, Nintendo is aiming to make a big splash in the North American portable handheld space with their super-sized Nintendo 3DS redesign. This new iteration features a screen that’s 90% bigger than the original, a sleeker design, and longer battery life. I want one really bad, but I’m having a hard time justifying the purchase of another 3DS when I bought the original at launch for $250, I haven’t played it much since, and the size increase kills its portability for me. Still, old habits die hard, and the urge to have the latest Nintendo hardware in my hands is strong.
Will you be picking up a Nintendo 3DS XL? Let’s discuss in the comments!
I can’t think of a reason to purchase this other than a bigger screen.
Is the launch price $250 for the 3DS XL?
3DS XL is $199. From everything I’ve heard, the hardware overall is much better than the regular 3DS. Better battery, bigger screens, more comfortable to hold, better buttons, etc. If I didn’t already have one (and if I had more games to play on it), then this would be a lot easier to justify.
I guess that seems ok.
What kind of software is currently bringing people to the system other than the new Mario game?
…the other Mario game?

There’s a couple of games that might do gangbusters on there, but as with any Nintendo platform, they’ve got their roster of franchises that they’ll gradually roll out to keep things moving.
I meant new super mario bros 2, my bad.
I just don’t feel the incentive to buy one at the moment. The only game I know anything about on that list is Epic Mickey which I am actually super excited about. 🙂
I know you meant that one. I was trying to say that people are also interested in the other Mario game due this year. No worries 🙂
I’m guessing you enjoyed the first one? I never played it.
I played the Wii version. It was fun enough alone but awesome for four players. I’m not a big Nintenddo guy lately since it’s mostly just the big franchises and that’s it.
Lately, I play fighters and small titles like arcade XBL games or the PSN downloadable games. Also, I’m big on purchasing games for PC on Steam.
What did you think of Summer of Arcade this year?
I played at least a trial of each game. I thought Summer of Aracde was very solid this year. There was something for almost any gamer. Dust is a title I didn’t know a thing about until a few weeks ago and it’s looks very promising. Sadly, I won’t buy any of the titles until I get a regular gig but I thought the games all look decent.
However, Hybrid is glitchy, does a poor job of explaining the mechanics of the game, and takes too long to load.
I could write a whole post about this and actually might at some point. Thanks for the idea 🙂
Did you try the games for Summer of Arcade?
