Capcom yesterday revealed in a press release that they are working on Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. As with Super Street Fighter IV, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 will be an iterative update to the original game that will be sold as a new game on a new disc. As much as I hate this business practice of Capcom’s that’s been happening since Street Fighter II: Championship Edition, historically I’ve only made the problem worse by purchasing these updates on day one. I’m fairly certain that I will continue the cycle by giving Capcom my $40 come November 15, which is when this game is scheduled for release.
What will you get with your $40 investment? Capcom revealed some of those details (such as 4 of the 12 new characters) officially through their press release and some gameplay footage, but some clever folks at NeoGAF were able to poke through Capcom’s own servers and find the remaining 8 new characters. Read through to see all the details!
Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 will have a total of 12 new characters, bringing the total character count up to 50. When Capcom first announced the game, they revealed Strider, Ghost Rider, Hawkeye and Firebrand. I have no affinity towards the latter three, but I know there was a huge fan out-pouring for Strider. Having him in the game is great news for many.
However, Capcom flubbed some server privacy settings on their end, and NeoGAF members were able to pull up art assets for the remaining 8 characters. They are:
Capcom
- Vergil
- Frank West
- Phoenix Wright
- Nemesis
Marvel:
- Dr. Strange
- Nova
- Rocket Raccoon
- Iron Fist
Phoenix Wright?! YES!
Beyond the characters, there will be new special moves and balancing for the old character, overall gameplay system balances and spectator mode.
If I’m going to give Capcom my money again, I’m hoping that this one isn’t a bare-bones and half-baked package like the original. Please put in at least the same level of features found in contemporary fighting games like Super Street Fighter IV and Mortal Kombat. Also, please remove the DHC glitch, minimize/remove ‘touch of death’ combos, buff a number of the weak characters, nerf Phoenix and Wolverine, add a combo-breaker system and whatever else they think would be good for the game.
