Most Disappointing Game is a crappy honour to receive. It doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s the worst game, but it’s a game that people had certain expectations for going into it that ultimately weren’t reached.
In Third Person’s Most Disappoint Game Award goes to a sequel that was a sleeper hit. I had a ton of fun with it and couldn’t wait for the sequel. Be careful what you wish for…

In Third Person’s Most Disappoint Game of 2011: de Blob 2
The original de Blob was awesome. It was a fresh and new experience that kept a smile on my face the whole way through. If you still haven’t played the original on the Wii, I’d still recommend going out of your way to find it.
Though the game had some issues in regards to pacing, repetitiveness and camera control, I figured that THQ would address all of that in the sequel. Boy, was I wrong. Instead, the sequel came out and had the same pacing issues that could have you playing a level for over an hour straight if you wanted to get everything. The camera control still wasn’t the greatest. And for me, the most disappointing part of de Blob 2 were the gameplay enhancements added to freshen up for the formula. Instead of making things better, all of the new additions just made the game worse, the biggest offender being the side-scrolling areas that are no fun to play.
While de Blob 2 is by no means a bad game (and still worth checking out on the cheap if you’ve never played the original), this game was a real bummer as a fan of the original. They essentially took the first game that you loved, didn’t fix anything that was wrong with it and in some respects, made it worse. For that, de Blob 2 gets In Third Person’s Most Disappointing Game of 2011 Award.
For me. It was either Brink or Duke Nukeum Forever, I had faith in Gear Box and I really wanted a very good team based online game that was like TF2 but a little bit more balanced 😦
I haven’t played either of them, but I haven’t heard good things, either. I’ve seen Duke Nukem Forever go on sale here for as low as $9.99, and as curious as I am to try it for myself, I’m still scared that at $10, I’ll still be ripped off.
I’d normally be on the defensive about this because I have a lot of love for GearBox, unfortunately what you say is so spot on I’m not even going to try
To their credit, all GearBox did was wrap up what was already there. That game appeared to be D.O.A. long before they ever got their hands on it. However, on their own, they’re capable of great things. Borderlands is one of my favourite games of this console generation.
I guess, I’m still excited for the new Borderlands and the Aliens game. It looks like tonnes of fun.
