While Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure is a pretty fun game to play with the three figures that come with the starter pack, it’s the ability to drop in dozens of other unique characters through the toys that makes the game shine. At launch, I remember seeing displays full of additional characters for purchase. Nowadays, every Skylanders shelf I’ve seen has been virtually empty. Not too long ago, Steff and I were at a Wal-Mart looking at an empty Skylanders section, when a customer service rep came up to us to say that they received a shipment of 96 figures that morning, which all sold out before noon.
While my stories may be anecdotal, I’ve heard many Skylanders fans complain about how scarce the figures are to find now. Should you try and buy additional figures on eBay or other third-party retailers, you could be paying upwards of $100 or more for an $8 figure.
I hear that a new shipment of toys is hitting retail today, which could help you in the short term. Readers of In Third Person, maybe you can help the community out, too. Do you have any pro tips that can help make the hunt for Skylanders figures any easier and ideally without having to pay a mark-up? Say your piece on the comments!
I was fortunate to get the game a a handful of extra characters for Christmas, but ever since they I can’t find them either! My nephew, who is 9, also got the game and resorted to buying them online from Toys R Us, but even then he paid a hefty premium. I wonder when they’ll finally be in abundance again…
Call me a conspiracy theorist, but do you think the scarcity is intentional to create this type of buzz?
