I’ve been on the competitive fighting game front for over 3 years now. In that span, I’ve poured in hundreds of hours into the Marvel vs. Capcom 3 series, and over 1,000 hours in the Street Fighter IV series. The fruits of that labour include me still being the #1 ranked Rose in Canada on the leaderboards, me being the #1 ranked Cammy in Canada at one point, and three good showings at major fighting game tournaments. I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished, and I don’t regret any of it
With that said, I think it’s time to chill out for a bit.
Though I’ll never shake my competitive spirit, or my general enthusiasm towards the genre, it’s a bit of a slow time for me. Having played Street Fighter IV for over 3 years straight, I think I’ve hit a plateau that I’m currently happy with. I also feel like I’ve had my fill of Marvel vs. Capcom 3. I was hoping that Street Fighter X Tekken would be the game that carries me through 2012, but that game has been a huge disappointment, and I probably won’t play that again until Capcom makes its major updates.
Without much new to play, and without any major tournaments in my area to train for, I’ll happily slow down on the competitive fighting game playing to focus on other games, or other aspects of life. I’m sure my girlfriend will appreciate not hearing the loud clicking, and clacking of my fightstick as much. I’m sure I’ll get back into the swing of things when something pulls me back in, but for now, I’ll give my fingers a well-deserved break.
