Besides being the battleground for the biggest fighting game tournament in the world, EVO has become a hotbed for fighting game news. Below are just a few of the big news stories to come out of this year’s event!
Abigail revealed for Street Fighter V
Rumors of Abigail being the next DLC character were substantiated on Sunday, as Capcom revealed him through a trailer. This giant will be available later this month alongside of his Final Fight stage. Personally, not a fan of how he looks or plays, but I’ll be fine with his existence if he brings something unique to the experience.
Gamora and Jedah were revealed for Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite
After the Marvel vs. Capcom 3 tournament, Combofiend and Filipino Champ showed off the two latest additions to the roster. Gamora very loosely reminded me of Deadpool in the Marvel vs. Capcom 3 series, while Jedah looked a lot like his Darkstalkers-series self. I’ve been lukewarm on this game for quite some time, but Jedah looks great. If they can get at least one more character that I’d be interested in playing as, maybe I’ll come back.
BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle Reveal
BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle is a 2v2 fighting game that also features characters from Persona 4 Arena, Under Night In-Birth and RWBY. I’ve dabbled in BlazBlue and Persona 4 Arena in the past, and while they aren’t my cup of team, I’m glad to see all of these properties come together for what should be a killer crossover!
Geese Howard is coming to Tekken 7
The crossovers continue! With Akuma already in Tekken 7, they can now add Geese Howard of Fatal Fury and King of Fighters fame. Geese will be made available this winter.
