Ultra Street Fighter IV battle: Blanka (EnigmaMount) vs Rose (jettFTW)

Most Blanka players rely heavily on shenanigans to score victories. Here, EnigmaMount systematically picks my Rose apart by letting me rush in and punishing all of my mistakes. This one one of the most sobering matches I’ve played in recent memory.

Some Nights

Some nights, when I’m playing Ultra Street Fighter IV online, I feel like I’m invincible. There are sessions where I go the entire evening without losing a match. Most of the time, I’ll win about 80% of my matches. In the grand scheme of things, that’s still amazing. Most recently, I had a miracle run with Decapre, where I took the character from 2,000 BP to 10,000 BP in two weeks. For context, I’ve played as Akuma on-and-off for years in the Street Fighter IV series and never got higher than 5,000 BP.

Last night was not one of those nights. In fact, it was easily my worst night ever in Ultra Street Fighter IV.

Ultra Street Fighter IV battle: El Fuerte (jettFTW) vs Balrog (IfretDginn)

Despite the fact that El Fuerte is arguably the most hated character in the cast, I’ve been a fan of his since the original Street Fighter IV. His fighting style is so unorthodox and reliant on good reads that it really takes a special player to make the most of him. I’ve noodled around with the character off-and-on since then, and never really got anywhere with him.

Inspired by Pepeday winning the Ultra Street Fighter IV Tokyo Game Show tournament with El Fuerte, I picked the character up again to see if I could make anything of it. Clearly, I have a long way to go, but at least with Pepeday making some noise on the scene, I’ve got something to aim for.

Ultra Street Fighter IV battle: Cammy (Lex_Almighty28) vs Rose (jettFTW)

Cammy may not be as popular today as she was during her Arcade Edition heyday, but I still believe that she’s one of the best characters in Ultra Street Fighter IV. In this video, I square off against the #11 Cammy in the world on PSN!

Death By Decapre

Decapre Mix-UpI have to admit that I didn’t expect to get much out of Decapre. Based on her similarities with Cammy and my struggles with using the original Killer Bee, I figured that any time with Decapre would end in disappointment. Don’t want to jinx things, but so far, Decapre is working out much better than expected.

Ultra Street Fighter IV battle: Oni (theunknownclone) vs Akuma (jettFTW)

This fight was far from pretty, but it forced my Akuma to find ways to seal the win against an opponent who was clearly giving me trouble.

Ultra Street Fighter IV battle: Cody (SupremeCream9000) vs Rose (jettFTW)

I probably should have guarded my chin better against the #10 Cody on PSN.

Excellence of Execution

Decapre cr.MK into HandsClick click clack! Click click clack! Click click clack!

This is the sound that my fightstick makes as I practice Decapre’s crouching medium kick into heavy Rapid Slash combo. It’s only two moves long, and one of those moves can be triggered by simply mashing a single button, yet I’m weeks into my practice and can only land it about 50% of the time against a stationary dummy. What makes this two move combo so difficult?

Ultra Street Fighter IV battle: Dudley (CasterMurdoc) vs Rolento (jettFTW)

Rolento might be a flavour of the month thanks in part to Nemo’s phenomenal play in the tournament scene, but the character clearly has its flaws. In particular, he can get dominated in close by offensive-oriented characters, such as Dudley. Still, I try my best to hang in tough against this highly-ranked opponent.

Ultra Street Fighter IV battle: Rolento (Saint-Seiya_III) vs Rolento (jettFTW)

I don’t like playing the Rolento mirror match. It basically boils down to two circus acrobats trying to trick each other with the same tricks. Posted this one because Saint-Seiya_III clearly thought he had me beat after the first round. Karma at its finest.
