After years of not playing as the Raging Demon, I pick Akuma back up to see what I’m capable of doing with him in this combo video. Hope you enjoy!

Ultra Street Fighter IV battle: Rose (EG Justin Wong) vs Rose/Rolento (jettFTW)
Oh my goodness! It’s not every day you get an opportunity to fight the legendary Justin Wong. Having idolized him ever since I discovered the competitive fighting game scene, this was basically the equivalent of me playing Michael Jordan in one-on-one basketball. I’ve got my direct footage from my console above, though you can also watch our fights from Justin’s perspective. He talked some smack after that first match, but maybe he spoke too soon. 😉
GG Justin! Thanks for the matches! I hope we can run it back to settle the score once and for all!

Ultra Street Fighter IV: Decapre Crouching Medium Kick into Hard Punch Rapid Slash Tutorial
This fundamental Decapre combo took me forever to learn, as it requires the use of the piano rolling input technique. I break it down in a way that makes sense for me in hopes that it’ll make sense for you too! Hope this helps you master one of her bread and butter combos while developing a transferable input skill in the process!

Analyzing My Worst Match-Ups As a Rose Player in Street Fighter IV

One of the least talked about features in the Street Fighter IV series of games is the way in which it tracks your progress. Not only does it track your wins and losses, but it also tracks your winning percentage on a per-character basis. This way, players can see how successful their main character is against the rest of the cast.
Over the years, the game has a lot of data around how I play the game. In between Xbox and PlayStation versions of the game, I’ve invested over 2,000 hours of my life into this. In particular, there’s a wealth of Rose data in there that could prove handy. For the purposes of this post, I only took a screen grab of my 10 worst match-ups on PSN, though I don’t think my Xbox numbers would veer too much from this. It’s also a sample size of close to 4,000 matches, so I think this on its own will be good to work with. Let’s check out the skeletons in my closet.
The New #1 Ranked Rose Player In The World Is…
Me.
After five years and four major revisions to the game, I reached #1 in the world on the Ultra Street Fighter IV Rose leaderboards on PSN. This does not mean I’m the best Rose player in the world, but it’s certainly a validation of all the work I put into becoming a better Street Fighter player. I never really set out to reach this milestone, but when I came within striking distance, I decided to go for it.
I may not hold onto this spot for long. If I were to lose it, I may never reach the top again. However, being able to reach this milestone for even an instant is worth a pat on the back. Besides, how often can anyone say that they are or were actually #1 in the world at anything?

cooliojones (Guile) vs. jettFTW (Rolento) in Ultra Street Fighter IV
jettFTW (Yun) vs. crimsonsouLL (Evil Ryu) in Ultra Street Fighter IV
I normally don’t go out of my way to try out top-tier characters, though of late, I’ve been experimenting with Yun. Even though some people think he’s the best, I’m admittedly struggling to make sense of the character. My experience with Yun in comparison to my time with Evil Ryu, Decapre and Poison has been noticeably rougher. Still, this one is one of my “better” first efforts with the character.
Bonus video below of my Rose against a Guile player. I didn’t think the match was all that remarkable except for him taunting me in the third round. Take a guess at how well that worked out for him 😉
Return of the Raging Demon

Years ago, I publicly dumped Akuma. Despite having invested hundreds of hours into the character, I felt like our relationship had run its course. I hit a ceiling with that character that was lower than where I wanted to go, so I thought it would be best to move on. As I’ve said multiple times on this blog in the following years, dropping Akuma for Rose was the best thing I ever did in a fighting game. Since dropping Akuma, I’ve leveled up to the point where my Rose is currently ranked 3rd in the world on PSN, which is a milestone that I wouldn’t have foreseen in my wildest dreams.
Was the dramatic turnaround all due to the character change? Part of it certainly is. However, having gone back to watch some old video and having played with Akuma recently, it’s becoming more apparent that much of my success now comes from personal growth.
Ultra Street Fighter IV Guy Combo Video
Guy is a character I have no interest playing, but one that my training partner uses as his main. Of late, we’ve been talking about his combos and the execution techniques required to pull off his more advanced stuff. As a means of better understanding the matter, I spent some time in the lab to figure out what he could do. Hope you enjoy!
Ultra Street Fighter IV: Rolento EX Stinger into Mekong Delta Air Raid Tutorial
Popularized by fighting game legend Nemo, I break down how to do this deceptively difficult Rolento combo. Hope this helps you add this technique to your arsenal!
