Girlfriend Gaming: What We’ve Been Playing August Edition

Ever since she got a Wii for Christmas, my girlfriend has amassed quite the game collection for herself. I haven’t actually taken the time to count our respective game stashes, but if she doesn’t already have more Wii games than me, she’s on pace to surpass me very soon.

We haven’t had too much time to play games together of late, since we’ve been out of town together for a number of reasons. In spite of that, we have spent some quality time with the Wii fired up. Hit the cut to see what we’ve been playing together. Maybe you and your significant other may enjoy together as well.

Lego Rock Band

When I played through this on my own and with my brother, I was not too high on it. I remember telling my girlfriend that I thought it was alright, but it was clear to me that this game wasn’t made with me in mind. However, she gave it a go and fell in love with it. Having played the game with her a few times now, I can see why. The Lego Rock Band set list is definitely more up her alley than regular Rock Band, featuring more music she would prefer to sing and play along to. She also loves the overarching story, which adds more context to what you’re doing than most other music games. Having played through over half of the story with her, I definitely enjoyed the experience more than I did when I played this alone.

Rabbids Go Home

My girlfriend is a fan of the Raving Rabbids games and owns all of them. She recently completed the collection by picking up Rabbids Go Home. Unlike the previous Rabbids games, this one is a full action game that takes cues from Katamari Damacy, de Blob and Super Mario Galaxy. During our one session together, we played co-op. She was in control of the shopping cart and I was able to shoot enemies and pick up items. I haven’t played enough of the game to judge it, but co-op felt good and I look forward to playing this with her again.

Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2

To be honest, I’m still not sure what motivated her to buy this game. When I think about the stuff she likes to play, four-player co-op action games with role-playing elements and starring the Marvel cast don’t cross my mind. In any case, we’ve had fun playing this together. We both experiment with different characters and have fun beating down what seems to be thousands of henchmen. If you want to go deep with the fighting mechanics, there’s a bit of depth to work with. However, the game is also button-masher-friendly, too. She really gets into the stats at the end, which I find kind of cute and funny. It’s important to her to track her progress through the game and see how everyone has leveled up. Meanwhile, I’m just happy to keep mashing the A button and kill more stuff.

As we continue to game together in the future, I’ll continue to highlight stuff that you and your significant other may enjoy together as much as we do. If either of you are looking for stuff to play on the Wii, try giving these three a shot.
