Am I Ready for Dead Space 2?

The hype train for Dead Space 2 has been gradually building for the past year or so. While the original game got off to a slow sales start, it eventually sold really well and won a lot of people over. I for one gave the game a shot around this time last year and was very impressed. Almost too impressed in a way. You see, that game was so good at being scary that I couldn’t handle the fear anymore.

Call me a wuss all you want, but Dead Space scared me in a way that no other video game has ever scared me before. Beyond the obvious jump scares, it does so much in terms of game design and sound design to scare that you never get a chance to rest. By chapter 5 or so, I physically couldn’t handle the stress of playing that game anymore.

As much as I would like to play Dead Space 2, I suspect that the outcome will be the same: I would buy it, play it for awhile and eventually drop it because it’s too scary for me. Unless I can toughen up and find enough inner strength to complete the first Dead Space, I will likely pass on the sequel, too.

The same thing happened to me playing Resident Evil. T.T

Thanks for the comment! If I may ask, do you mean the original Resident Evil or any game in the series?

You need to finish it up. It’s an amazing game especially if you are a Resident Evil fan. It does everything that RE (series) did right and dropped a cherry on top. I love it. Everything from the unique weapons to the dark atmosphere. I am totally ready for Dead Space 2. I have it preordered and I’m finishing up the free copy of DS Ignition so I can get the bonus suit. Oh boy I can’t wait to turn off the lights, turn up the surround and get swallowed up by Dead Space again!

Thank you Gil for the comment! Always love hearing from you.

From what I played of it, I agree. Dead Space is a great game. It was really fun, and really scary. To it’s credit, so scary that I couldn’t physically handle the fear and stress that came with playing it. Within seconds of continuing my game, my mind would say, “ohgoshmakeitstopmakeitstopmakeitstop”. That game never let up and only got more intense as I went, and it got to the point where I was only looking forward to stopping it rather than playing it.

That’s not the game’s fault. That’s my fault. If I can conjure up the guts to finish it, I will. Until then, every gamer can call me a wuss and I would have no retort.

We’re all here for you Jett, your not alone. I still never finished Uncharted: Drake’s fortune because of the horrific near end sequences if you can recall.

I remember those parts. Yeah there are some scary moments there too.
