The Greatest Bits is Back With a Donkey Kong Country Remix Album

Friend of In Third Person, The Greatest Bits, is back! In my interview with him, he mentioned that he was working on a Donkey Kong Country remix album. Just a few months later, it’s out!

While most people will remember Donkey Kong Country for it’s revolutionary-at-the-time graphics, it also had an incredible soundtrack that I think still holds up today. I was curious to hear how The Greatest Bits would tackle this soundtrack, as it poses it’s own opportunities and challenges that are different from those in the Mega Man 2 soundtrack, his last effort.

One of the benefits that The Greatest Bits has going for him with this project is that the 16-bit era opened up the audio possibilities for composers. Much of the music of that time, while still sounding like video game music, featured a lot more depth and ambiance. While The Greatest Bits does leverage some vintage 8-bit synthesizers, he does not shy away from diversifying his soundscapes with more modern instruments for his Donkey Kong Country remix album.

If you’re interested in picking it up, it’s available now on iTunes or CD Baby!

NOTE: The Greatest Bits was gracious enough to send over a copy for me to listen to. He did not ask me to promote it on my blog; I’m writing this because I enjoy the work 🙂

I love old Nintendo remixes! However the Legend of Zelda ones should just die… they were horrible…
