I’ve been tackling my backlog this year in addition to new games. Most of my back log is unfinished games. If I start a new game, I finish it before moving on. It’s worked so far. So far this year I’ve managed to play through the Mass Effect trilogy, Ni No Kuni, The Last of Us, The Walking Dead, and Spec Ops: The Line. From the unfinished pile I’ve finished God of War I, Batman: Arkham Asylum, and I’m one mission from the end of Red Dead Redemption (I thought I had beat it but was wrong). I’m also one colossus from the end of Shadow of the Colossus in the HD collection.

I’ve tried to mix up the genres and long vs. short games. After playing through all 3 ME games and Ni No Kuni I needed an RPG break. So I played through God of War. Then The Last of Us came out so I played through that. Then The Walking Dead and Spec Ops (both relatively short). I tend to get burned out on a genre so I knew the only way to get through my backlog was to mix it up. And if I played all long games back to back I wouldn’t feel like I was making progress.

I’m very diligent about not leaving games before I’ve completed them. If I start a game and like it, that is my focus until it’s done. If I don’t like it, then I’ll drop it, never to pick it up again. I find that if I start too many games at once, I’ll eventually fall behind on some, if not all of them. I definitely picked up the habit once I started this blog, as I wanted to post reviews, but couldn’t do my due diligence until I beat whatever I was playing.

What have I finished this year? I have to think about that. I did:

      – XCOM: Enemy Unknown
      – Fire Emblem: Awakening
      – Lollipop Chainsaw
      – Sleeping Dogs
      – Skylanders Giants
      – BioShock Infinite
      – Injustice: Gods Among Us
      – Spec Ops: The Line
      – Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon
      – The Last of Us
      – Dead Island Riptide
      – The Walking Dead: 400 Days
      – Tekken Tag Tournament 2 (I beat arcade mode, which technically counts)
      – Darkstalkers Resurrection (same case as TTT2)

And these are what I left hanging:
      – Rocksmith (suck too much at guitar)
      – Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing (it gets really hard at the end)
      – ZombiU (didn’t like it)
      – Dark Souls (suck too much at that)
      – Tomb Raider (will be in the next day or so)
      – Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon (will finish in the next day or so)

You can’t quit Dark Souls! Everyone sucks at that for awhile. 🙂

I suggest starting with Kingdoms of Amalaur: Reckoning. That game looked really cool and I still haven’t played it.
