Batman – Detective Comics Vol. 3: Emperor Penguin

Had I not bought the first three volumes of Detective Comics in one shot, I would have stopped after the second one. The first showed potential, yet had a few glaring holes, while the second only made things worse with a droning story that didn’t go anywhere. I picked up Vol. 3: Emperor Penguin with the mindset that I would just plow through to get it over with, but then I noticed that the names on the cover were completely different.

Kudos to Tony Daniel for all the work he’s done in the past. I think his art in Detective Comics is great. I even liked his writing in Savage Hawkman #1. But as far as his work with this series, it really fell off a cliff. With a new creative team at the helm, this may be the kick start it needs to get back on track.

Batman – Detective Comics Vol. 2: Scare Tactics

Gotham never sleeps and Batman is back on the patrol in Batman – Detective Comics Vol. 2: Scare Tactics. Last time out, I generally enjoyed the book, but felt it was a bit too straightforward and one note. Also, I had concerns with the revolving door of super villains that made it difficult for a story to develop into anything meaningful. Well, this time, Batman squares off against The Mad Hatter, Black Mask, Scarecrow and the Court of Owls. Also, Two-Face is heavily featured towards the end of this book. Uh…lesson learned?

Batman: The Dark Knight #23.4: Joker’s Daughter Review

I came into Batman: The Dark Knight #23.4: Joker’s Daughter essentially blind. I haven’t read any of The Dark Knight line besides issue #1, and I didn’t even know that The Joker had a daughter. With that said, curiosity got the best of Steff, who picked this up when she saw it at Toronto Comicon.

Batman: Hush Review

Originally released in 2002-2003 as part of the Batman monthly series, Hush is a 12-issue set of comics involving many of Gotham’s notorious villains, yet there’s a mysterious new mastermind that’s pulling the strings. Who is doing this and why? Along the way, things get really complicated between The Dark Knight and Catwoman, and a visit to Metropolis goes awry in unexpected ways.

Batman – Detective Comics Vol. 1: Faces of Death

The next stop on my Batman adventure is Batman – Detective Comics Vol. 1: The Face of Death. As an outsider looking into the comic book scene, I never understood why the same character needed different comic lines. Well, after reading the first issues of both mainline Batman and Detective Comics Batman, I decided to continue with both, as they told very different stories with a different narrative approach. It also didn’t hurt that the events of Detective Comics issue #1 directly tie into other comics that I’ve already read. Looking to flesh out that story, I dive into another Batman adventure.

Batman Vol. 1: The Court of Owls Review

For over a century, rumors have spread across Gotham of a secret criminal organization that operates deep within the city’s shadows. Despite mounting evidence to prove their existence, Bruce Wayne uncharacteristically sticks to his beliefs that it’s nothing more than folklore. It’s this stubbornness that causes Batman to get caught with his pants down in Batman Vol. 1: The Court of Owls.

Batman: The Killing Joke Review

Originally released in 1988, Batman: The Killing Joke is widely considered to be a classic. It’s also considered to be one of the most important, as there are events that take place here that had ramifications in the DC universe for decades. Having finally gotten around to reading it, I see what the hype was all about.

Injustice: Gods Among Us Matches

With a few minutes to spare, I filmed a few random matches in Injustice: Gods Among Us. I love the little kid in the background screaming, “Batman!” as my Bruce Wayne destroyed the Flash.

Batman Swag – My First Crack at an Injustice: Gods Among Us Combo Video

I’ve been playing a lot of Injustice: Gods Among Us of late, and the one thing that really draws me to it is its flexible combo system. Within the confines of its combo strings, there’s a lot you can do to sequence them and throw in other types of moves to orchestrate a stylish barrage of attacks. This video of me pulling off some Batman combos is not meant to be best in class material. However, I wanted to show off a few of the sequences I currently have in my back pocket that are a bit more advanced in nature. I’ll definitely continue practicing in order to achieve maximum swag, but for now, I hope you enjoy!

In Third Person Passes 200 Posts: Here’s 5 You May Have Missed

200 posts is a fairly big milestone for a blog. I don’t have the stats to back this up, but I’m pretty sure the majority of blogs get abandoned after a handful of posts. I love In Third Person, and I think creating 200 posts by myself in just over 13 months says a lot about my love of games and my commitment to this site.

During that time though, I also switched platforms from Blogger to WordPress. Unfortunately, I’m pretty sure that the majority of my Blogger readership didn’t make the jump to WordPress and that my WordPress following never dug into the older Blogger posts. If you don’t fit into either use-case, then 200 blog posts is a lot of content to catch up on.

If you’re looking to go back through the In Third Person catalogue, this 201st post highlights 5 posts you may have missed.
