Universal Fighting Game Guide: Collecting Data On Your Opponent

As fighting game players, we spend a lot of time thinking about ourselves. We worry about memorizing our own combos and spend much of our time thinking about what we’ll do to control the flow of the match. However, it takes (at least) two to tango, and what they do is equally important to determining the outcome.

By paying attention to their behaviours and tendencies, you can put yourself in a much stronger position to win by using that knowledge against them. In this edition of the Universal Fighting Game Guide, we cover the concept of data collection, how to collect it and how to make it work for you.

Universal Fighting Game Guide: Choking

Mind over matter is a valid adage in the world of fighting games. Most matches are won by knowledge and good decision-making; not through large combos. However, the human mind can’t always be counted on when it’s under enough stress. Players in fighting games sometimes choke, just like anyone in any form of competition.

How can you take advantage of a choking opponent without caving under pressure yourself? Find out in this installment of the Universal Fighting Game Guide

Why I Love Wolverine in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3

Wolverine is my second favourite comic book character of all-time. I’ve always been a fan of his lone wolf mentality, heart-driven decisions, and adamantium claws that he liberally uses to slice foes into confetti. Upon the release of Marvel vs. Capcom 3, I picked him up right away and haven’t looked back. Even if he sucked, I’d probably find a way to make use of him, though he just so happens to be awesome in this series. In a modern world of Zero, Vergil and Dr. Doom players, here’s why I use Logan.

Top 10 Games of This Generation – #10 : Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3

(Original Review)

Outside of the fighting game community, most saw Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 as an overpriced DLC pack for the original game. While that argument wouldn’t necessarily be wrong, it was moot in the eyes of the competitive community. Marvel vs. Capcom 3 was a game that was scorching hot at tournaments, but contained a number of flaws that stopped it from living up to its full potential. This game addressed all of those faults, from a shortage of characters, to the dreaded DHC glitch. For someone like me who had played hundreds of hours of the original and still hungry for more? This was excellent.

Jett Plays: 004 – Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3

Trying to play and narrate at the same time has proven problematic, especially for a game as intense as Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, so I switch to recording my vocal track after the fact. I think it makes what I have to say a bit more worthwhile, and you get to see me kick some butt!

Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Combo Video #3

This is a short one, but I had to capture the last two on video when I figured them out. While randomly messing around in training mode, I made up a few raw tag combos, which is uncharted territory for me. Check them out!

Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Combo Video #2

Though I don’t play fighting games with the same intensity or fervor that I used to, I’m still trying to make progress with my skills when I’m in between other titles. Of late, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 has been my jam. Since the last combo video I made, I tightened up my execution a bit, learned some new techniques and came up with a few cool ideas to make my existing combos to do more damage. In particular, I’m finally starting to get a feel for Dr. Doom. In particular, I’m proud of myself for finally figuring out how to dash cancel after the second foot dive to do the iconic foot dive loops. Check it out!
