While I can’t speak for everyone, this very well could be my biggest new release week of the year. My two most anticipated games of 2012 are out now, and I’ll probably be making a bee line to the store before work to grab copies of both.
Mass Effect 3
Take control of Commander Shepard one more time as he/she attempts to save the galaxy from the threat of Reapers once and for all. I still hold Mass Effect 2 in extremely high regard, and I’m hoping that this takes the series to the next level of awesomeness. If you haven’t played any Mass Effect games before and would like to start with 3, I’m sure that BioWare has a way of accommodating new players. However, in a series where your decisions from all the previous games carry and impact this one, you may miss out on a thing or two by skipping to the third. If you want to go back, but don’t feel like putting in all the effort to start from the beginning, I’d recommend at least playing Mass Effect 2.

Street Fighter X Tekken
Two of the biggest fighting game franchises collide in a cross-dimensional battle for the ages. As a huge Street Fighter fan, I’m ready to sink my teeth into a new Street Fighter game, even if this isn’t the next true step from Street Fighter IV. Everything I’ve seen of this game looks fantastic. I’m not really much of a Tekken guy, so I can’t speak to how they’ve translated into this, but I’ll most likely give them a shot. As much as I love Street Fighter IV, this very well could dethrone it it once and for all as the new biggest fighting game on the block.

I feel the the same way as you: these two games are perhaps the biggest titles I’ve been looking forward too in 2012. As I was at the store I had to make the big decision…. and ended up getting Street Fighter X Tekken.

The best part about it so far for me is the very different fighting system. I’m going to have to learn the fighting system, no relying on past combos and exploits from SFIV, and I really like that. I’m still experimenting with characters to see who I like, but right now I’m enjoying Ken and Yoshimitsu 🙂
Your point is a love/hate point for me. I spent a number of years leveling up in Street Fighter IV, and I was hoping I could leverage more of my learning in this. But you’re right; this is a very different fighting system. I do like what it has to offer and I’m excited to learn more. Right now I really like Rolento, but I’m also experimenting with Cammy and Poison. I’ve also been playing online 2v2 with one of my coworkers, which has been a blast.
