Pick Up Post: Gameloft Dollarama and an iPad Adventure

I have to hand it to Gameloft and their iDevice pricing strategy. Their aggressive $1 sales have won a lot of good will with me, which I have returned by buying almost a dozen of their games. I have generally found their games to be of relatively good quality for mobile, and their games on sale for $1 are much more in-depth and content-rich than the majority of $1 games available on iTunes.

Hit the break to see what two Gameloft games (and one non-Gameloft adventure) I just picked up. From what I know about these three games, they’re all good buys at regular price, but really are a steal at their sale price.

Modern Combat: Sandstorm (iTunes)

Based on the screenshot alone, I don’t need to tell you what this game is inspired by. Yes, it plays like ‘that’ game, and from the little I’ve played of it, Modern Combat: Sandstorm does the mobile first-person military shooter thing pretty well. It’s got a campaign mode and online 4-player versus mode. It’s $1 for a limited time, so click through my iTunes link and grab it before it’s too late.

Dungeon Hunter (iTunes)

I’ve actually been considering grabbing the iPad version of this game for a while now. However, at $1, I’m willing to jump in with the iPhone version instead. This game draws a lot of comparisons to Diablo for its middle ages setting, hack and slash action and lots of loot. I was surprised to see how in-depth the character editing options are. It’s a fairly robust RPG and I’m pretty sure worth the $1 price tag.

Sam and Max Episode 1: The Penal Zone (iTunes)

The Sam and Max series is one I’ve been meaning to try for a long time. I’ve even come close to picking up the seasons on Wii when I’ve found the discs in the bargain bin. However, I passed on them every time. I feel that dropping $2 on the iPad game may be a better way to get into the series. $2 is about as low as I would expect a product like this to go. I can also play it on an iPad, which is probably the platform I would give it the time of day. Grab this one while it’s on sale, too.
