The original de Blob was my surprise game of 2010. Though I was a few years late to the party, this sleeper hit made quite the impact on me. It was by no means a perfect game, but this joyous game was just a pleasure to play. There are very few games I would wholeheartedly recommend to anyone of any gaming skill or taste, but de Blob is one of those games. If you have a Wii and have not played this game, you’re missing out.
I’m not sure if de Blob 2 will find (or exceed) the success of the first game, but I did my part and picked up a copy.
de Blob 2 features an almost identical plot as the original. You play as Blob, and you and your colour freedom fighters are fighting the INKT overlords by returning colour to the world. If this looks and sounds kiddy, that’s because it totally is. Does that mean you should take a pass on it for more mature fare? No. The presentation is Pixar-like in that there’s something for everyone to like. It also doesn’t hurt that the core gameplay driving de Blob 2 is really fun. I’m not very far into it as of writing, so come back soon for more detailed impressions!
Unlike the original, de Blob 2 is also available on the XBOX 360 and PlayStation 3. While I’m sure the Wii version will hold its own (the original looked great), I bought the 360 version for the standard controller support, achievements and prettier HD visuals. Whichever system you get it on, you should be in for a good time.
