Starting out as a breakout hit card game in 2013, the Sushi Go! universe of games now contains three titles as of writing:
- Sushi Go!
- Sushi Go Party!
- Sushi Roll
All three games are built on the same cute art style and addictive gameplay. But which version should you get? Or can you justify owning all three? The answer depends on what you’re looking for.
Ain’t no party like a Sushi Go Party!
The sequel to the hit card game returns in a larger box and with more varieties of sushi to draft from. It also comes with support for up to eight players, versus the five of the original. This package is certainly bigger, but is it better?
2016 has been a quiet year for board game shopping in our household, at least relative to years past. Part of that I feel is from a sense that we’ve largely caught up on past games that we’ve missed and now it’s mostly a matter of looking forward to upcoming new releases. Then there’s also the matter of our wedding, which did push the board games aside for a bit while we planned our nuptials.
So with life finally starting to settle down again, we took a trip to our friendly local game store. Two of the games we got were proven hits that we’ve played in the past. One is a hot new release that’s also a sequel to one of our faves.
The makers of the hit game Sushi Go! have announced the upcoming release of Sushi Go Party! This super-sized sequel mixes things up by allowing players to customize each game with a set of over 20 different types of sushi cards. Also, this new game supports 2-8 players, versus the 2-5 of the original.
I like Sushi Go!, so the name alone was enough to catch my attention. While I do have a bit of concern that choosing what sushi is in each game could take away from the original’s light and quick appeal, but support for player counts as high as eight is a huge plus. Might be wishful thinking, but I hope the game also has a better two-player solution, as two players in the original game wasn’t that great. Will certainly be keeping an eye out on this one, which should be out at some point later this year!
