10 Ways in Which Street Fighter IV Failed

Street Fighter IV, without a doubt, is my favourite game of all-time. Having literally dedicated thousands of hours to playing it, deconstructing it and building myself up to be the greatest world warrior I could be over the last six years, the race for #1 game in my heart wasn’t even close. Even if the game is eventually surpassed by something else, I’ll never shake the profound effect its had on my life.

It may reign as my favourite game, but it’s certainly not a perfect one. In the wake of the Street Fighter V beta, the flaws of its predecessor glare brighter than ever. Before we let it retire with its rightfully-deserved legendary status, let’s lovingly pick the game apart for its flaws with this list of 10 ways in which Street Fighter IV failed.

Why I Love Rose In Street Fighter IV

When it comes to character choice in fighting games, I’m a strong believer in not choosing the best character, but going with the best character for you. It always works out best when you find that character with the right mix of tools that you genuinely enjoy playing as. Otherwise, you’ll never reach your full potential, even if the so-called experts will always suggest going top-tier. As I’ve said multiple times on this blog, dropping Akuma for Rose was the best decision I made while playing Street Fighter IV. Without her, I probably never would have reached over 3,000PP, 15,000BP, become the #1 ranked Rose player in Canada on Xbox Live and PlayStation Network, or done as well at tournaments as I have.

This post is not intended to state why Rose is the definitive best. Heck, I’d even agree with many of the experts that in comparison to the rest of the cast, there are a number of characters that are better overall. However, the synergy I have with Rose may be tighter than any ‘relationship’ I’ve ever had with a video game character. Here’s a few reasons on why that is.

Got The Street Fighter IV Double Crown

Just over a year ago, I reached the milestone of #1 ranked Rose player in Canada on Xbox Live. While this was met with no fanfare beyond any created by me, it’s still an accomplishment I hold near and dear. As someone who can still vividly remember losing 20+ straight matches online when I first started playing Street Fighter IV, it’s a testament to how far I can go in a game if I put in the time and effort to get better.

Though I haven’t played the game with much vigor (or much at all) in 2012, I just crossed another milestone.
