Wonder Woman Vol.2: Guts Review

Of the dozens of comics I’ve read in the last month or so, Wonder Woman has been the surprise hit. It’s mix of Greek mythology, superhero action and Maury-style baby mama drama make for a compelling read unlike anything else I’d experienced to-date. Vol. 1: Blood was a great first effort and Vol. 2: Guts picks up right where things left off.

Pick-Up Post: Board Games!

photo 5(3)Steff and I’s latest trip to 401 Games proved to be a fruitful one. Our haul from this one features a strategy game from the makers of Ticket to Ride, a Kickstarter-funded card game, a board game designed by Richard Garfield of Magic: The Gathering fame, and a dice game that’s barely a game.

Batman – Detective Comics Vol. 2: Scare Tactics

Gotham never sleeps and Batman is back on the patrol in Batman – Detective Comics Vol. 2: Scare Tactics. Last time out, I generally enjoyed the book, but felt it was a bit too straightforward and one note. Also, I had concerns with the revolving door of super villains that made it difficult for a story to develop into anything meaningful. Well, this time, Batman squares off against The Mad Hatter, Black Mask, Scarecrow and the Court of Owls. Also, Two-Face is heavily featured towards the end of this book. Uh…lesson learned?

Off-Topic: Do You Even Lift Bro?

Despite an active involvement in sports for most of my life, I’ve been allergic to exercise. I’ve never liked the act of physical activity without some sort of inherent objective to work towards. I’ll run up and down a basketball court all day in pursuit of a win, but running on a treadmill usually wears out its welcome very quickly.

For the few times that I was disciplined enough to stick with it, I had to find a goal beyond the immediate activity at hand.

Batman: The Dark Knight #23.4: Joker’s Daughter Review

I came into Batman: The Dark Knight #23.4: Joker’s Daughter essentially blind. I haven’t read any of The Dark Knight line besides issue #1, and I didn’t even know that The Joker had a daughter. With that said, curiosity got the best of Steff, who picked this up when she saw it at Toronto Comicon.

April 5th, 2014 is International Tabletop Day!

This year will be the second annual International Tabletop Day. Founded by Geek & Sundry of Tabletop fame, this is a day meant to celebrate the awesomeness of board games and card games. There are a ton of official and unofficial events happening around the world which should be fun to take part in. Head over to the website and track one down near you.

I’m actually getting my brain scanned on the morning of for research purposes, but I may make a stop at my local board game store afterwards to check out what’s going on. Also, Steff and I might host our own board game day at our place with everyone that’s coming with us for the brain scan. You don’t need to give me excuses to play more board games, but I’ll gladly take this one!

Batman: Hush Review

Originally released in 2002-2003 as part of the Batman monthly series, Hush is a 12-issue set of comics involving many of Gotham’s notorious villains, yet there’s a mysterious new mastermind that’s pulling the strings. Who is doing this and why? Along the way, things get really complicated between The Dark Knight and Catwoman, and a visit to Metropolis goes awry in unexpected ways.
