Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare Review

After mining World War II for everything it had to offer, Call of Duty got a huge boost by moving into the modern era. Years later, in a time where present-day warfare feels like old hat, the franchise moves again to the only logical next step: the future. Sure, for those keeping score, Black Ops II was a half-step in this direction, though Advanced Warfare leaves all semblance of the present behind with futuristic guns, gear, and movement options that represent the most dramatic change to the core formula. Can Activision score another touchdown off of the same era-switching play?

Call of Duty: Black Ops Review

Ever since my subpar experience with Call of Duty: World at War, I’ve had a chip on my shoulder against Treyarch. To me, they’ve been the B-team that made filler titles while Infinity Ward crafted the games people really wanted to play. Though this perception among the Call of Duty enthusiasts washed away with the release of Black Ops, I coincidentally stopped playing the series just before then. In a Black Ops II world, I only now finished the campaign of the original.

My ‘Do Want’ List of Q4 2010 Video Game Releases

For gamers, the most wonderful time of the year starts right about now. Most of 2010’s biggest games are set to drop between September and December, including the likes of Halo: Reach and Call of Duty: Black Ops. As a kid, this used to be the time of year when I would fawn over each hot new release as they hit stores and make sure come Christmas time, it would make it on my wish list. Ever since I grew up and started working though, Santa has had a horrible time trying to get me stuff, because I have a bad habit of buying every game I want the day it comes out.

While I don’t see myself grabbing Halo: Reach or Call of Duty: Black Ops, which will likely be the biggest games out during this time-frame, that doesn’t mean I won’t have anything to play. Off the top of my head, I listed a few games I’m looking forward to getting my hands on when they hit stores later this year.
