Ultra Street Fighter IV Review

Almost six years ago, Capcom ushered in the silver age of fighting games with Street Fighter IV. Along the way, Capcom has kept the game fresh with a steady flow of free balance patches and paid updates. Currently sold as a $15 update the existing game and later as a standalone disc, Ultra Street Fighter IV is latest – and quite possibly last – of the major updates planned for this modern classic. Adding in 5 new characters, new modes, new gameplay systems and another round of character balancing, Capcom is hoping to end the IV era with the definitive version of the game.

I finally get to play my favourite Street Fighter X Tekken character in a legitimate fighting game! My Rolento here is still super rough, but I’m working on it.

Decapre Revealed as the Final Ultra Street Fighter IV Character

After months of teasing and speculation, Capcom has finally revealed the final character that will make her debut in Ultra Street Fighter IV later this year. Decapre, who is one of M. Bison’s Dolls, is a clone of Cammy. Well, they’re technically all clones of the same thing, but yes, this is all part of the existing Street Fighter mythology and not just a cheap way to get another character in the game (though that’s probably also the case).

Why I Love Wolverine in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3

Wolverine is my second favourite comic book character of all-time. I’ve always been a fan of his lone wolf mentality, heart-driven decisions, and adamantium claws that he liberally uses to slice foes into confetti. Upon the release of Marvel vs. Capcom 3, I picked him up right away and haven’t looked back. Even if he sucked, I’d probably find a way to make use of him, though he just so happens to be awesome in this series. In a modern world of Zero, Vergil and Dr. Doom players, here’s why I use Logan.

Why I Love Rose In Street Fighter IV

When it comes to character choice in fighting games, I’m a strong believer in not choosing the best character, but going with the best character for you. It always works out best when you find that character with the right mix of tools that you genuinely enjoy playing as. Otherwise, you’ll never reach your full potential, even if the so-called experts will always suggest going top-tier. As I’ve said multiple times on this blog, dropping Akuma for Rose was the best decision I made while playing Street Fighter IV. Without her, I probably never would have reached over 3,000PP, 15,000BP, become the #1 ranked Rose player in Canada on Xbox Live and PlayStation Network, or done as well at tournaments as I have.

This post is not intended to state why Rose is the definitive best. Heck, I’d even agree with many of the experts that in comparison to the rest of the cast, there are a number of characters that are better overall. However, the synergy I have with Rose may be tighter than any ‘relationship’ I’ve ever had with a video game character. Here’s a few reasons on why that is.

Thoughts on Ultra Street Fighter IV

While we knew that Capcom was working on an update to Street Fighter IV, they announced at EVO that the update would be meatier than originally expected. In early 2014, the latest update will include five new characters, six new stages and new modes.
