Spray Paint Art Rewards, Tetris 99 & Overwatch Events, and a 24-Hour Gaming Marathon as Part of My Extra Life 2020 Campaign!

Over the past two years, we’ve raised over $2,000 in support of the Children’s Miracle Network of Hospitals through Extra Life. With 2020 being the year that it is, our help is needed more than ever! This year, your donations will go towards the Children’s Hospital COVID-19 Impact Fund. In light of where things are in the world, it’s crucial that we step up and help the kids during these unprecedented times.

If that’s all the convincing you need to support the cause, head over to my donation page and contribute whatever you’re able to spare. But if you’d like to learn more about the cause or follow along with all of my initiatives to support Extra Life this year, read on!

9 Tips to Improve Your Charity Stream and Get More Donations!

Thinking about hosting a charity stream? This video might help take that show to the next level! Having done a few charity streams now, I take a moment to share a few things I’ve learned to help make my charity streams a success. Hopefully these 9 tips will do the same for you!

As a heads-up, this video will serve as a “season finale” of sorts. My one month buffer of videos has officially depleted and some of the upcoming videos I want to make are going to require a bit more lead time. I really don’t want to be in a position where I’m scrambling every week to put out a less-than-stellar video in order to continue posting weekly. So I won’t.

Instead, the series is going to go on hiatus for a month or so while I tinker away in the background. Part of this next round of videos will include board game content, which I’m incredibly excited to bring into the fold. You’ll be the first to know when the videos are coming back. For now though, enjoy this one! And thank you to everyone who has watched any of these videos to-date! I appreciate your time and support.

This is Why We Play – A Recap of the Extra Life: SickKids 2020 Kick-Off Party

Last week, myself and many others made the trip to SickKids Hospital in Toronto for the annual Extra Life Kick-Off party. It served as an opportunity for existing guild members to reconnect and for newcomers to learn how to get involved. Most importantly, it was an opportunity for all of us to reflect on why our fundraising efforts are so important.

Enjoying Content Creation in Ways I Didn’t Expect (Charming and Open Response)

Charming and Open is a blogging collaboration organized by Ian at Adventure Rules. Ask him a question and he’ll reply to it in a blog post. In exchange, he’ll ask you a question to answer on your blog. If this sounds like something you’d be interested in, head over to Adventure Rules and shoot Ian a question! He wrote an amazing response to my question about his content creator bucket list, which you should check out here:

http://adventurerules.blog/2019/12/27/the-adventure-rules-bucket-list-charming-and-open/

His question for me is:

“What is something about your hobby as a content creator now that you really enjoy that either wasn’t possible or wasn’t something you thought you’d be interested in when you started out? Put another way, what is a new enjoyment that you have discovered about your hobby since you started blogging?”

Thank you for the question(s), Ian! When I read it back, I saw two unique questions that have their own sets of answers. I will rephrase and answer both. Let’s get it!

Extra Life 2019 Post-Mortem – Part 3

During the first two parts of this post-mortem, I focused a bit too much on the nitty gritty details of running an Extra Life campaign. Now that I got that out of my system, let’s get to the fun stuff! Here’s an assortment of highlights, memories, and shoutouts!

Extra Life 2019 Campaign Post-Mortem – Part 2

During part 1 of my Extra Life 2019 post-mortem, I focused on all of the activities leading up to the marathon itself. From joining the Extra Life Toronto Guild, to running a mini-campaign around my performance in Tetris 99, I reflect on what worked and what could improve. This time around, I’m tackling all of the technical mumbo jumbo related to the big day. Maybe these insights could help guide your next charity event!

Extra Life 2019 Campaign Post-Mortem – Part 1

Our first-ever attempt at the Extra Life gaming marathon was a success. We raised $800 for the Children’s Miracle Network of Hospitals and had an amazing time doing it. Any fears I had going into it were quelled by the outpouring of support from family, friends, and the broader gaming community.

Even so, I wasn’t ready to rest on my laurels. Going into 2019, I wanted to make a bigger impact. Generate more donations. Put on an even better show. Get more involved with the cause. Before I close the door on this year’s campaign, it’s worth looking back on the areas where growth occurred and other aspects that still have room for improvement.

This post grew out of control real fast, so I’ve decided to split it into two parts. This is part one, covering everything leading up to the marathon!

Watch Our Extra Life 2019 Marathon!

As if participating in a 25-hour marathon wasn’t difficult enough, the Extra Life site struggled to stay online due to multiple DDoS attacks. Even so, we powered through and raised $1,218 for the Children’s Miracle Network of Hospitals. Simply amazing!

View the full post to see the individual parts, as well as the lengthy shoutouts! Thank you all for your support and we’ll see you next year when we do this all over again!
