Has 2012 Been a Slow Year for Video Games, Or is it Just Me?

The last few have been tremendous for gamers. It seemed like we were getting top-tier releases all year long. This year, I feel like I haven’t played much of anything. I went many months without buying any games, or seeing anything on release lists that piqued my interest. Sure, there have been a few marquee releases already, such as Mass Effect 3 and Diablo III, but the 2012 release line-up to date has seemed pretty underwhelming to me.

Pick-Up Post: Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Mini Mates

For about a year now, I’ve had Spiderman, Wolverine, Ryu and Akuma figures sitting on my desk. I’ve always arranged them as if they were ready to duke it out in a Marvel vs. Capcom battle. I always though it’d be cool to have one more Marvel figure and one more Capcom figure to ‘complete’ a 3v3 team.

Not too long ago, I was able to do just that, when I coincidentally found a stash of Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Mini Mates figures at an out-of-town comic book store.

If You Could Be the Best in the World at One Video Game, What Would That Game Be?

Also, why would you choose that game? Would you want to be recognized as the best because you have the world’s highest score? The world’s fastest speed run? Would you want to be unbeatable in competition? Or would you want to be considered the best for some other reason? Let’s discuss in the comments!

My Review for Indie Game: The Movie is Now Featured on the Movie’s Official Website

When I went and saw Indie Game: The Movie awhile back, I did not envision this as the outcome. The review I did for Splitkick is currently featured in the Press section of the Indie Game: The Movie official website alongside a nice pull-quote.  Is it too much to ask to also get featured on the DVD/Blu Ray box? Just kidding. This is awesome! Thank you to the team at Indie Game: The Movie for the recognition!

At In Third Person, we mostly focus on the fun and games of life. Unfortunately, life for many doesn’t have much in the way of fun or games. Through a donation to Child’s Play Charity, you can help bring the fun and games back to a hospitalized child.

The Possibility of Working in Gaming Journalism

There was a time in my early teens when I thought that being a gaming journalist would be the coolest job in the world. How could a job that requires you to play the latest and greatest video games before they come out not be the coolest job ever? During my younger years of reading the golden age of EGM and Gamepro, I had dreams of being the next Scary Larry or Sushi-X.

In my own way, I’m closer to living that dream than ever. In Third Person is my venue to share my gaming-related writing to the world, which now receives thousands of visits a month. As this site has grown, I’ve seen a number of job postings for writers at some of my favourite gaming websites and blogs. Do I have what it takes to make that jump into gaming journalism? Or more importantly, do I even want to make that jump into gaming journalism?

In Third Person’s Style Guide to Video Game Shirts

I am a fairly outward person when it comes to my love of video games. Besides writing a blog about them, I oftentimes bring up gaming in day-to-day conversation with anyone willing to listen; video game fan or otherwise. I also like to wear video game shirts. Once upon a time, the thought of outwardly showing my nerdiness through a gaming t-shirt horrified me. Over the years though, as gaming has become more socially acceptable and I’ve become more comfortable in my own skin, I’ve taken to purchasing and wearing video game shirts in public with pride.

As much as I enjoy gaming shirts, I have extremely specific taste. There are shirts that I will pay stupid amounts to have while there are many other shirts that I feel personally offended by just by looking at them. When I wear a gaming shirt, I want to convey a very specific message to certain people, which many shirts don’t do. I’m no fashionista when it comes to…well, anything, but I thought I’d share my perspective on gaming shirts anyway. Maybe you’ll agree with my gaming fashion do’s and don’ts, maybe you won’t. In any case, I’d love to hear your gaming fashion tips in the comments.

About You: My Understanding of the In Third Person Readership Based on the Numbers

I love analytics. As someone who works in the online advertising industry, I find the process of analyzing numbers and deriving insights from those numbers to be very interesting. Although WordPress.com has a very limited analytics dashboard, I still check the numbers multiple times a day to see how everything is doing.

For the fun of it, I thought I’d write a mini-report of sorts to share with you some of the insights I’ve gathered about you and those who frequent this site. I sort of did this about a year ago, but I thought it’d be fun to try and make a persona model of you, the In Third Person reader. I understand that you’re all unique people, but the purpose of this exercise is to try and boil you down into one main archetype based on the numbers I have available to me. How does this match up to you?
