2011 was a landmark year from In Third Person. After the WordPress home page plug in September 2010, this blog could have easily slipped back into obscurity, only to be viewed by 5-10 people a day. Instead you readers kept visiting, commenting and sharing In Third Person content to make it a far bigger deal than I could have ever imagined. Thank you for making this site as successful as it is! Let’s make 2012 even better 🙂
Also worth thanking is WordPress. Besides being a great platform to blog on and the promo in 2010, they sent me a very cool In Third Person annual report.

I love analytics. As someone who works in the online advertising industry, I find the process of analyzing numbers and deriving insights from those numbers to be very interesting. Although WordPress.com has a very limited analytics dashboard, I still check the numbers multiple times a day to see how everything is doing.
For the fun of it, I thought I’d write a mini-report of sorts to share with you some of the insights I’ve gathered about you and those who frequent this site. I sort of did this about a year ago, but I thought it’d be fun to try and make a persona model of you, the In Third Person reader. I understand that you’re all unique people, but the purpose of this exercise is to try and boil you down into one main archetype based on the numbers I have available to me. How does this match up to you?
September was a monumental month for In Third Person. It was during that month where my initial PlayStation 3 impressions got the site featured on the WordPress.com home page, which brought in a lot of new readers. Traffic has cooled considerably since that massive spike, but In Third Person still brings in more people now than it did before the spotlight, which is awesome.
What that spotlight has also done is change the viewing trends on In Third Person. This site is now higher up on search engine priority lists, which means people are checking out a variety of different posts that weren’t garnering much buzz before.
There’s no surprise to what #1 is, but the rest of the top 5 is an interesting mix of content worth checking out if you haven’t already.
Ever since I wrote the Top 5 All-Time Most Viewed In Third Person Posts post, I’ve been kind of a metrics junkie. I’ll frequently log in with the sole intention of viewing the numbers and picking out the trends. I don’t envision a day where I’ll ever give away all my numbers to you, but I think it could be a neat exercise to talk about how you, the readers, use In Third Person. I’ve already covered the Top 5 Most Viewed In Third Person Posts of All-Time and now, I want to talk about the three topics that In Third Person readers can’t get enough of within the last month or so.
Because I write In Third Person solely as a personal outlet of gaming nerdiness, I don’t pay much attention to my analytics. Even if no one in the world were to ever see this blog, I would continue writing in it anyway, just to get these gaming-related thoughts out of my head and onto something a bit more tangible. Well, as tangible as the Internet can be. If you or anyone else decides they want to read my musings, power to you.
And read my musings you have. Sure, my traffic may not rival the Craigslist posting your mom put up to promote your family garage sale, but there are a consistent number of people that frequent my site, according to my numbers.
