Video Game Guardian

As the oldest child on my mom’s side of the family, I learned very quickly that I would have an influence on my younger siblings and relatives wheter I consciously tried to or not. Before my younger brother could ever get into playing toys, he got a hold of a Gameboy and a Super Nintendo controller and never looked back. At the time, I figured it was just the kid thing to do, but those early days of playing Super Mario World really did change his life.

When Die Hard Fans Go Wrong

I normally pay no mind to video game related petitions. They’re usually stupid demands made by and supported by equally stupid gamers. But I couldn’t help but discuss this recent petition related to Sonic 4. To be fair, not everyone in the petition is in support of it, and some people are there just to make fun of them like I’m about to.

Girlfriend Gaming: Why Make Her Join the Dark Side?

Happy Valentines Day! For those of you in love, out of love, or in-between love, I hope that your Valentines Day turns out to be a good one. Up until recently, the majority of my Valentines Days were horrible, but this isn’t the right forum to discuss that.

Anyway, I thought today would be a good day to start what may become a series of entries from me that pertain the role video games have in a relationship with a significant other that I call “Girlfriend Gaming”. I don’t mean to exclude the GLBT community, as some of my best friends are GLBT, but I would not be able to speak well on the intricacies of that dynamic. R18+ and Why You Should Care

Scribblenauts Is Racist?

Over the last few hours, the video game blogosphere has been going insane over the inclusion of the word “sambo” in Scribblenauts.

Joystiq and Kotaku, just to name two outlets, have covered this topic, and I think blew it way out of proportion.

Some Thoughts On I Got Next (Short Version)

“I Got Next” is a documentary about the fighting game scene. Filmed during the Sinsation tournament earlier this year, its goal as a movie is to cover the scene and the people behind competitive fighting games. I watched the short version of the film at www.igotnextmovie.com. A longer version of the movie is due out this winter, with footage from Evo 2009.

Player One Remembers Andy Baran

I’m a huge podcast junkie, and the Player One Podcast has been one of my go-to shows since the very first episode. This week’s episode from Chris Johnston, Greg Stewart and Phil Theobald (all former EGM editors) is a tribute to former EGM editor Andy Baran, who recently passed away at the age of 35 due to pancreatic cancer.
