The Heroes in a Half Shell make their gameplay debut in this new trailer from NetherRealm Studios. It is awesome to see how they fight as a team, though it opens the door for more questions about how this all works. We should find out soon enough, as the Fighter Pack 3 DLC is out in February.
I regrettably still don’t have a copy of Injustice 2, but this may finally push me over the brink. I need to play this at some point!
2017 was a rough year for Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite. Mired by critics and fans for its sub-par visuals, a short roster sorely lacking in power, and a gameplay shift to 2v2 combat that was perceived as a step back for the franchise, the game floundered upon release. Even Capcom’s eSports efforts, which helped salvage Street Fighter V, sputtered through a tournament season that felt rushed by the organizers and were poorly-attended.
Things only got worse to start 2018. Based on Capcom’s recent financials, the game shipped a million units. Despite being a seven-figure number, Capcom reports that figure as “soft”. Capcom announced the new season of Capcom Cup and Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite was notably absent. On top of that, EVO announced its 2018 lineup and the game wasn’t included, marking the first time a Marvel vs. Capcom game didn’t make it.
With poor sales and no support from the largest tournament organizers, is it time to put the tombstone on this game and quite possibly, the series?
After an embarrassing night the last time I streamed Dragon Ball FighterZ, I returned online looking for revenge. Did I look more like Goku instead of Yamcha this time?

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been playing a lot of Dragon Ball FighterZ with a focus on writing a review. That should be up soon, but having to work through the story mode and try out a number of the other game’s features has put a lot of my own team-building work on the back-burner. As I transition into playing the game more competitively, I’m going to try my hand at building at least a base understanding of the whole roster before making hard choices about which characters will make my A-team.
Not sure if I’m going to do a write-up for every character, but I’ll cover characters I play as if they’re fun to write about. First up, let’s look at the franchise poster boy, Goku!
There is a magic to Celeste that you won’t see at first glance. Having seen it in Nintendo’s Direct Mini, I brushed it off as just another Super Meat Boy clone. Hasn’t the world been subject to enough challenging 2D platformers with retro graphics? After playing this game, the answer is a resounding, “No.”

Dragon Ball FighterZ went full Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan at launch, shipping and selling a combined two million copies across all platforms. According to Gematsu, it’s the fastest selling game in the Dragon Ball series. By comparison, that puts it close to two-plus years of Street Fighter V sales, and not that far behind Tekken 7. I can’t find concrete numbers regarding Injustice 2, but it’s roughly in this same lofty ballpark as well.
Nintendo’s foray into the mobile market continues with Mario Kart Tour. The only real info we have is the above tweet from Nintendo, but the thought of mobile Mario Kart is enough to put many into a tizzy. Nintendo’s mobile output has been hit-and-miss as they attempt to tailor each game for mobile, but in theory, this should be a straightforward process of putting the proven gameplay onto a mobile device where countless others have attempted to copy the formula.
It’s going to be a long wait, but I’ll gladly twiddle my thumbs till then if that means Nintendo gets it right!

There are no shortage of Dragon Ball fighting games on the market. However, none of them look as close to the source material as this, and none have been backed by a developer as renown for fighting gams as Arc System Works.
Dragon Ball FighterZ has been stunning viewers since it debuted at E3 2017 off the strength of its anime-like visuals and team-based gameplay. With Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite having stumbled out of the gate, combined with the buzz surrounding this game, it has the opportunity to really establish its footing in the genre as a force to be reckoned with. With the game out now, we don’t have to wait to see if it’ll kamehameha the competition!

My interest in Street Fighter V cooled off for a number of reasons. One, certain aspects of the way the game was designed mechanically didn’t jive with the way I like to play fighting games. Two, I had a very difficult time coming to grips with my first 0-2 defeat at Red Bull Proving Grounds. Finally, I was getting destroyed by every Urien player in sight.
Introduced near the middle of season 1, Urien is a force to be reckoned with. He has a killer tool-set that allows him to dominate in many ranges while being able to string together lengthy combos for massive damage. Best/worst of all is his Aegis Reflector V-Trigger, that is unparalleled as a tool for starting combos, extending combos, and creating reset opportunities.
Each time I matched up against a Urien player, it was like watching the same movie over-and-over. I would either get beaten to a pulp, or strike Urien enough to allow him to activate his V-Trigger and turn the tables on me. After piling up loss-after-loss, my motivation to play the game fell through the floor.
