Yomi Kickstarter Unboxing

FullSizeRender(5)After months of anticipation, my Yomi Kickstarter package arrived in the mail just before Christmas! With the goodies enclosed being an expansion to a game I already love that won’t be available to the general public for months, and this being the first Kickstarter I’ve ever backed, my excitement levels are running pretty high right now. Let’s take a look at what’s in the box!

Ultra Street Fighter IV Showdown: Decapre vs. Rolento

Decapre and Rolento have more in common than just being two of the five new characters in Ultra Street Fighter IV. They’re also characters that I’ve put a lot of time and effort into. As of writing, my Decapre is ranked 4th in the world on PSN, while my Rolento is 7th. Clearly, I’ve managed to garner a fair amount of success with both, to the point where they probably give my Rose a run for her money.

In this post, I’ll analyze both characters based on my experiences with them and determine which of the two is better. Which of the two will come out of this fight still standing?

An Amiibo Story: Princess Zelda

Skylanders and Disney Infinity toys are alright, but they certainly don’t pull at my heart strings quite like Nintendo’s Amiibo line of figurines. Based on their legendary roster of characters – and a few friends from outside of the family – these figurines are symbolic of my love of not only Nintendo, but video games as a whole. Most of these characters ushered me into the medium as a young child and have continued to provide me with joy ever since.

Having just bought my first Amiibo, I thought it’d be cool to write about the process of collecting these figures and what each one means to me. Let’s start this off with the first Amiibo in my collection, who just so happens to be the first lady of Hyrule.

Ultra Street Fighter IV battle: Rolento (emufarmdotcom) vs Decapre (jettFTW)

Thought this one was a particularly strong showing from my Decapre. To be fair, I believe his main character is C. Viper, which he pulled out after this match. However, wanted to share this one specifically because I was proud of my performance on this one.

Ultra Street Fighter IV Omega Mode Decapre Combo Video

The Omega Mode version of Decapre is wildly different from her Ultra counterpart. Many of her normal moves have been completely changed. The properties and inputs for many of her existing special moves have changed. She even gets a fireball now! The possibilities with Decapre seem wide open, so I tried to capture a few of those on video for you!

My Next Ultra Street Fighter IV Project

Because having the #1 ranked Rose, #4 ranked Decapre and #7 Rolento in the world on PSN isn’t enough, I continue to play Ultra Street Fighter IV. Despite my obsessive thirst for points, it’s not really the drug that keeps me here. What really drives my play is the fact that it’s still supremely fun and it constantly rewards players for putting in the time and effort to learn and improve. I’ve had a blast learning the nuances of my three mains, though it’s also been fun to play and learn the characters that haven’t panned out. Since I probably will continue to play this game for the foreseeable future, here’s my short list of characters that may be my future projects.

Ultra Street Fighter IV Omega Mode Rose Combo Video

With Omega Mode now out in the wild, I immediately took Rose into training mode to see what was possible. She may not have been changed as dramatically as some of the other characters, though she certainly got a bit more flavour added to her arsenal. Some of the things I try to demonstrate in the video are:

– Opponents are now in juggle state after LK Soul Spiral. I think the only thing you can do off of it is Soul Throw in the corner.

– Forward MP now slides towards the opponent a bit. In Capcom’s official Omega Mode moves list, it’s called Soul Feel. Not sure how practical it is in an actual fight, but you can link from it to score big damage.

– She has a new move called Soul Passing. When someone tries to hit you, it acts as a counter that temporarily stuns them. Not really much use within the context of a combo, but could make for a good opener on an overly aggressive foe.

– Her Aura Soul Spark is different depending on which button you trigger it with. LP activates the usual version, which has been tweaked so that you can follow it up with a Soul Throw. The MP version moves Rose forwards with a multi-hit combo before finishing with the fireball. The HP version starts out with a Soul Reflect before going into the fireball.

– She has a two-hit EX move that isn’t listed in the official move list. By doing the Shoryuken motion with two punch buttons, she does a crouching HP that sends her opponent into the air, and finishes them off with a Soul Throw. This move costs 1 EX bar.

– She also has more range on her slide move, but you can’t combo off of it. As such, it’s not in this video.

Hope you enjoy the video! More Omega Mode combo videos to come!

Board Game Night Playlist: Family Game Night

Up until this very moment, I never really thought about all of the different meanings that “family game night” can entail. There’s a difference between parents playing board games with their young children versus adults playing board games with their even older parents, which is where I’m at now. The definition can vary even further, as there are a seemingly endless number of family configurations out there.

Trying to approach a family game night to fit every family configuration is a lost cause. However, coming up with one is a bit easier if you’re looking for games that are fun for all ages that don’t have any sort of objectionable content within them. Hopefully this isn’t too late for the holiday season. Here’s my Board Game Night Playlist that may work wonders for your next family game night!

My Decapre has gotten strong, but strong enough to battle with the #3 ranked Vega in the world on PSN?
