Though today is the big day, my wife Copper Key Cosplay and I have been sharing an assortment of cosplay looks on her Instagram. Here’s a look at a few of the pictures we’ve taken for her Instagram, including an assortment of outfits inspired by video games!
Cosplay has grown to become an integral part of the convention experience. Whether you buy a completed costume from a store or create everything from scratch, fans love the experience of adorning the gear and assuming the roles of their favourite characters. My wife, sister-in-law, and brother are all avid cosplayers, I’ve been fortunate enough to see firsthand how much effort and passion goes into this hobby. Cosplay and those who partake in it are awesome!

Steff’s influence in cosplay has rubbed off on me…a bit. While I have little interest in dressing up and zero desire to make a costume of my own, I have ended up donning the robes of multiple characters throughout the years. Here’s a look back at some of my costumes for conventions and other events!
When I think about globalization, my mind defaults to thinking about the ways in which the world at large has embraced North American culture. For example, when we were in London and Paris earlier this year, we heard the same music blasting on speakers everywhere we went. Who would have thought that Paris would love “Old Town Road” so much?
Maybe it’s just me being ignorant for not seeing the ways in which globalization has gone the other way. I acquired a taste for video games thanks in large part due to games that Nintendo and other Japanese developers were publishing in the 80s and 90s. Tetris, a game I herald as the closest thing mankind has made to the perfect video game, is a Russian export. I don’t really watch anime anymore, but there were stretches of time where I obsessed over Dragon Ball and Bleach. Heck, if I turn on the radio here, it won’t take long before I hear the K-Pop sounds of BTS.
After watching the documentary Cosplay Culture on Netflix Amazon Prime, it served as yet another reminder of how work from foreign countries can have a massive influence around the world.
Celebrating its 25th anniversary, tens of thousands converged on the Metro Toronto Convention centre for Fan Expo Canada. This my 10th show and the event continues to be a highlight in my pop culture calendar.
If you’ve been following along on my Instagram or Twitter, you’ve probably seen most of what I’m posting here. But I will try and add some commentary to some of the cool things I saw at this year’s show!
My wife made this for me to wear at a Halloween party. Really proud of her and how this turned out. Will definitely wear this at a future convention to show my love for ARMS!
