Fan Expo Canada 2015 Recap

Fan Expo 2015Steff and I were just two of the over 127,000 people converged at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre this year for Fan Expo Canada 2015. This year was our fifth consecutive year going and it was a good show. Definitely not my favourite Fan Expo, but one that was certainly worthwhile that kept me entertained throughout. Lots of stories and pictures to share with you, so let’s just get into it!

I’m Going to Fan Expo 2015!

It’s the most wonderful time of the year for Toronto fans of all things nerdy, as Fan Expo Canada returns! If memory serves me correctly, this will be my 6th time going to the show. Here’s what I’m excited for this year!

Toronto Comicon 2015 Starts Today!

Toronto’s spring convention returns with the 2015 edition of Comicon. Last year’s show was quite the success for me, so I’m looking forward to heading back to the Metro Toronto Convention Centre this Saturday to partake in the festivities.

In Third Person Comic Book Show: Fan Expo Canada 2014

I let loose about the biggest pop culture event in Canada, which takes place from August 28-31! I apologize for the few technical hiccups in the show. I’ll see what I can do to prevent that going forward!

Hands-On: The PlayStation 4 Controller

I’ve never been a fan of the DualShock. Despite it becoming the archetype that almost every controller has followed since, I never liked the placement of the left analog stick. On the PlayStation 3 DualShock, I hate the mushy triggers and how my thumb constantly slips off the convex-shaped sticks. Despite keeping the same general form factor, the PlayStation 4 DualShock is a notably improved controller.

Fan Expo Sports Strikes Out

If Fan Expo 2013 was the latest battleground between nerds vs. jocks, the nerds crushed their competition in a lopsided victory. This shouldn’t come as a surprise, as this is the first time that sports has been featured. However, the sports aspects of the show themselves turned out to be a bit of a letdown.

Eyes-On A Whole Bunch of Games At Fan Expo 2013

Besides the handful of games I got to play at Fan Expo 2013, I saw a lot of other titles on current and next gen platforms. Some of these were live demos that us common folk were playing, while others were part of a sizzle reel. I didn’t get to experience enough of them to formalize a post, though I’ll throw in a quick word based on what I saw. Enjoy!

Hands-On With Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag

After the last two disappointing console releases, my perception of the Assassin’s Creed franchise is in the toilet. The series has hit the point of saturation where the annual release schedule not only wears me out, but the quality of the product suffers for it. In particular, Assassin’s Creed III was a buggy mess that still would have fallen short of the mark had it been bug-free.

I want to believe that a jump to next gen is the kick in the pants that this franchise needs, but so far, this doesn’t look like it.

Pick-Up Post: Fan Expo 2013 Edition

Fan Expo Swag Full

Every year, Fan Expo is especially harsh on my wallet. I rarely get access to much in the way of nerdy stuff to buy, let alone everything I could ever want in one place. This year proved extra fruitful, as I bought or got pretty much everything on my wish list and then some. In case you’re interested, here’s what I got!

Hands-On With Killer Instinct

At Fan Expo 2013, I got to play a pre-release build of Killer Instinct on the Xbox One. Though I wish I could have played the game on a fightstick, it did give me an opportunity to get a feel for the new Xbox One controller and my first new taste of Killer Instinct in over a decade.
