Splinter Cell: Conviction Impressions

Stealth games and I generally don’t get along. Most games in the genre require its players to figure out the ideal route through every scenario and execute to perfection. Anything less leads to instant failure. Even if you’re a stealth game savant, most of these scenarios require a ton of trial-and-error to master. This is a process I cannot stand.

So why would I even bother with Splinter Cell: Conviction; the latest instalment of arguably the premier stealth series? Over the last year or so, Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Mark of the Ninja warmed me up to the genre a bit more. I’ve heard that this latest Splinter Cell has a more action focus to it, which is definitely a selling point to me. Also, it didn’t hurt that I scored it at the bottom of a bargain bin for a mere $10. Did the gamble pay off?

Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon Review

As an 80s baby, Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon is my childhood fever dream come to life. Everything from the cheesy sci-fi, pixelated vignettes to the nonsensical use of ninja stars in a world with laser weapons are here. This tongue-in-cheek spin-off is a novel way to extend the Far Cry 3 experience. Even though I’ve yet to play the source material, I couldn’t pass on this $15 downloadable title. While the humor starts to wear thin, this short and punchy experience ends before it becomes a problem.

Since his release as a DLC character in Injustice: Gods Among Us, Scorpion has quickly risen in popularity. This is partially due to him being the most recognizable character from Mortal Kombat, but also because he seems unstoppable. At this point in the game’s life, you’re bound to run into a ton of Scorpion players that are all abusing the same stuff. LittleBigPlanet Karting Impressions

My experiences with Sony’s Play, Create, Share line of games have been mostly negative to-date. I wanted to love LittleBigPlanet, but couldn’t get over how floaty the jump was. Then I tried Mod Nation Racers, which ultimately turned me off due to its generic karting action and some of the worst load times in this generation. Knowing that, I figured that a LittleBigPlanet karting game made by the Mod Nation Racers people was doomed for failure in my eyes. Yet, when LittleBigPlanet Karting went on sale for dirt cheap through a PlayStation Plus sale, I couldn’t help myself.

Early Tekken Revolution Impressions

Seemingly within a matter of days, the concept of the free-to-play fighting game went from zero to overdrive. Dead or Alive 5: Ultimate was first to announce that it was going free-to-play. At E3, it was revealed that the Killer Instinct reboot on Xbox One would have varying pricing options, including a free version with 1 selectable character. First out the gate though is Tekken Revolution. As ~~an old man~~ someone who is generally weary of the free-to-play model, I approached this as an interesting approach to fighting games and their pricing models.

Future Ambitions For My Man Cave

This is our den. It may not look like much, especially in its pictured state with all of the clutter, but its a step forward for Steff and I comfortably living together. In the past, we did not have the room for my gaming setup to get its own space, which forced me to set up shop in the main living room. While I liked being within close proximity to Steff while she watched TV, it was far from ideal for both of us, especially when we wanted to zone out and do our own things. With this den, the plan is to use it as a place for all of my gaming stuff, while also accommodating some storage to hold assorted house stuff.

Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Review

Though I’m generally quick to throw Tekken under the bus, I feel like that disdain primarily stems from a lack of understanding. I actively avoided the series during its heyday, and my few encounters with it haven’t been overly positive. I bought Tekken 6 a few years ago, but quickly got rid of it when it became apparent that it wasn’t going to work out.

At one point, I thought I just had it in for 3D fighters in general, but then I fell in love with Dead or Alive 5. Maybe Tekken is the problem after all? After finding Tekken Tag Tournament 2 on the cheap, I gave the series another shot.
