Thoughts on Ultra Street Fighter IV

While we knew that Capcom was working on an update to Street Fighter IV, they announced at EVO that the update would be meatier than originally expected. In early 2014, the latest update will include five new characters, six new stages and new modes.

The Last Of Us Single Player Review

Much of my time with The Last of Us wasn’t pleasant. Granted, some of that unpleasantness is by design, since this is a survival horror game in many ways. However, some of the displeasure I felt playing the game wasn’t intentional. After starting things off with a bang, the pace drags to a crawl as it establishes its core gameplay. Worse yet for me, that gameplay is primarily stealth-based, which generally isn’t my cup of tea. On top of that, I had a hard time investing into the moment-to-moment action when the gameplay and context balance just felt off during its first half.

Having said all that, it eventually hits its stride to provide one heck of a closing act.

Samurai Shodown II on iPhone Review

While many ports of modern fighting games have translated very well on iOS, such as Street Fighter IV: Volt and King of Fighters i-2012, the older titles in the genre haven’t carried over so well. Titles such as Street Fighter II Collection, Marvel vs. Capcom 2, Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, and SoulCalibur are plagued with sub-par controls, limited feature sets, shortened character rosters and unreasonable pricing.

As someone with a soft spot in my heart for the Samurai Shodown series, I was really hoping that the Samurai Shodown II port to iOS would buck that trend. I should have known better.

Trials HD Review

Trials HD still stands as one of the most successful games in the history of Xbox Live. You’ll be hard-pressed nowadays to find someone who hasn’t tricked their way through its insane motorcycle obstacle courses. For the longest time, I was one of those people. I’d saw and heard a lot of feedback about the game being difficult, and that was enough to keep me at bay. Had it not been for a Splitkick community game night that featured Trials Evolution, I probably would have passed on the series completely.

It’s sequel won me over in a big way last year, though I’ve only gotten to HD now. While I still have a blast working my way through every course, it’s definitely not a series one should play backwards.

Buy Jett’s Picks on Amazon.com

Screen shot 2013-01-22 at 7.49.38 AM

First off, thank you to everyone that has supported In Third Person by making a purchase through the Amazon-powered store. Your support is truly appreciated. I also hope you picked up something totally awesome in the process!

If you haven’t been to the store before, it’s never too late to check it out. While you’re able to buy any video games that Amazon sells through the store, I’d recommend checking out the Jett’s Picks section, which has a list of games I played since opening the store and thought were awesome. There’s little blurbs to accompany each game, though I’m pretty sure that every game has (or will have) a review on the site for more detail. Hopefully, you’ll enjoy these games as much as I did.
